Abstract

Enver Beşinci'ye ait İcâzetli Hekim Diplomalı Doktor başlıklı kitap, tıp tarihi ve eğitim tarihinin kesiştiği bir noktada durmaktadır. Beşinci, on dokuzuncu yüzyılda modern tıp eğitiminin verilmeye başlaması ile, yeni yetişen doktorlara Batı'da olduğu gibi "diploma" değil de icazetname verilmesinden yola çıkarak bir kültür ve kimlik tarihi yorumu yapmaktadır. Hekim-doktor, diploma-icazetname üzerinden yapılan tartışmalarla eğitim, tıp ve kültür tarihine bir katkı verilmiş görünmektedir.

Abstract

Enver Beşinci's book, Aproved hekim, doctor with a Diploma, stands at the intersection of medical history and the history of education. Beşinci offers a cultural and identity history interpretation based on the fact that, with the advent of modern medical education in the nineteenth century, newly trained doctors were awarded certificates rather than “diplomas” as was the case in the West. The discussions surrounding physician-doctor and diploma-certificate appear to contribute to the history of education, medicine, and culture.
