He received his doctorate from Marmara University, Istanbul, Turkey. He was appointed to Yıldız Technical University. Between 2014-2015, he conducted research as a visiting scholar at Indiana University-Bloomington in the United States of America with a TÜBİTAK scholarship. He currently continues his research as Prof. Dr. at Yıldız Technical University, Department of Turkish Language and Social Sciences Education.
Selim Hilmi Özkan is Professor of History at Yildiz Technical University. He is currently working on Ottoman diplomacy and Ottoman foreign policy. His most recent publications include “Reasons for Migration of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire before 1915”, African and Asian Studies, 19, 3, (2020), 282-305; and “Arms Smuggling across Ottoman Borders in the Second Half of the 19th Century” Journal of Balkan and Near Eastern Studies, 18, 3, (2016), 297-312. He is currently working on a book project: Migrations and Migration Routes from Cebel-i Lebanon to the United States of America, End of the Nineteenth Century. Also, he is included in a researcher working group on "COST Action CA18129 "Islamic Legacy: Narratives East, West, South, North of the Mediterranean (1350-1750)" and "COST Action CA18140, People in Motion: Entangled Histories of Displacement across the Mediterranean(1492-1923)."
I held postdoctoral positions at Arizona State University, AZ, USA, from 2023-2024; at Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX, USA, from 2014-2015; and at the University of Wisconsin in 2012. My research has focused on Ottoman diplomacy, Ottoman foreign policy, and history education.
Paolo Girardelli completed his PhD at the University of Naples in 1996. His work focuses on European, Levantine, and non-Muslim presence in late Ottoman cities.
Dr Mrs Neeta M. Khandpekar holds the position of Professor in the Department of History at the University of Mumbai. She has wide teaching experience of over three decades. She was awarded D.Litt degree by the University of Sambalpur, Odisha. Her interests include Modern/ Maritime History and Christian Missionary History. She has visited several countries like USA, Canada, Italy, Malaysia, Indonesia & China with support from UGC and ICHR, New Delhi. A member of more than 14 professional academic bodies and was in the Board of Studies of University of Mumbai from 2004-10. The other distinctions include certificate of merit by Government of Maharashtra (1986), Mumbai University History Department Scholarship (1989), UGC Teacher Fellowship Award (1999) and UGC Postdoctoral research Award (2004). She has authored two books namely Konkan Coast: and other on Christian Missionaries. Recently she was deputed as ICCR Chair Professor at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.
Sanatçı/ Akademisyen 2004 yılında Atatürk Üniversitesi Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesi, Geleneksel Türk Sanatları bölümünü kazandı. 7 Temmuz -7 Ekim 2007 tarihleri arasında İtalya/Floransa Palozzo Spınellı L’arte E Il Restouro Assocıazıone No Profit Enstitüsünde çizim ve decorasyon dersleri aldı. 2008 yılında tezhip anasanat dalında lisans öğrenimini tamamlayarak aynı yıl Atatürk Üniversitesi, Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü, Geleneksel Türk Sanatları Bölümünde yüksek lisansa başladı. 2013 yılında Gazi Üniversitesi, Güzel Sanatlar Enstitüsü, Geleneksel Türk Sanatları bölümünde Sanatta Yeterlik programına yerleşerek 2017 yılında tamamladı. 2013-2018 yılları arasında Gaziosmanpaşa Üniversitesi, Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesi, Geleneksel Türk Sanatları Bölümünde Öğr. Gör. ve Dr. Öğr. Üyesi olarak görev yaptı. 2019 yılından bu yana İzmir Demokrasi Üniversitesi Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesi, Geleneksel Türk Sanatları Bölümünde görev yapan sanatçı halen İzmir Demokrasi Üniversitesi, Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesi, Geleneksel Türk Sanatları bölümünde Doç. Dr. olarak çalışmalarına devam etmektedir.
The Journal of Ottoman Civilization Studies [OSMED] presents a scientific inventory of the interaction studies between individuals and societies in the Ottoman State. Its scope is to publish authentic studies about Ottoman Empire societies and cultures written by social scientists related to anthropology, sociology, history, and political sciences. The journal focuses on problems and possibilities, as well as the past and the future. The comparisons between cultures and societies are made as far as possible. Articles must be predicated on authentic research and analysis.
The Journal of Ottoman Civilization Studies [OSMED] was adopted as a principle for publishing in fields related to Ottoman History, Ottoman Civilization, and Ottoman geography.
JOCS organizes or supports in-country or abroad academic conferences, symposiums, workshops, etc. It includes the full versions of the proclamations submitted in these studies only if it is not published elsewhere.
The journal presents a scholarly account of studies of individuals and societies in Ottoman Civilization. Its scope is to publish original research by social scientists in anthropology, sociology, history, political science, and related social sciences about Ottoman Empire societies and cultures and their relationships. The journal focuses on problems, possibilities, and the past and future. Where possible, it compares cultures and societies. Articles should be based on original research and can be co-authored.
