The General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration was established on June 22, 1935, by Law No. 2804 as the Mineral Research and Exploration Institute, with the aim of researching the mineral and raw material resources of our country, determining their reserves and grades, and bringing them into the economy. Within the scope of its duties specified in Law No. 2804, our General Directorate continues its work on the exploration of natural resources; it investigates the fundamental geological characteristics of the earth's crust, obtaining and interpreting basic data for mining and raw material resource exploration studies and the determination of natural disaster risks in our country, and develops models and recommendations based on the results. In this context, it carries out its activities in the fields of mineral and geothermal resource exploration, geological and geophysical research, and scientific and technological research in the form of regional and basin-based projects, establishing field camps and workplaces, and sourcing some of its workers and equipment from the relevant regions. In addition to mineral exploration, geological research has been conducted on land and at sea for the use of the earth's surface, geological maps of various purposes and scales have been produced, and studies revealing the geodynamic evolution of our country have been carried out. In carrying out these activities, efforts have been made to raise awareness of geological heritage and to preserve formations that can become natural monuments for future generations. Since these efforts are ongoing, they are updated with developing new methods and technologies, and the work continues.
