Introduction: Every period of time has its own emphasized values, cultural differences, thought and behavioral patterns. Communities which consist the people who were born in a certain time period, who share the conditions of the same era, similar distresses and sorrows, similar objectives are defined as generations and they are divided into five groups: the silent generation, baby boomers, generation X, generation Y and generation Z. In this study, people who were born after the year 1980 were admitted as generation Y. Aim: This research was conducted in order to perceive the expectations of generation Y managers who actively take part in the management of a hospital.
Methods: This study was carried out as a qualitative research in order to perceive the expectations of 6 hospital managers belonging to generation Y, working in a public hospital in Istanbul. In the first stage, in-depth interviews were conducted and the findings were subjected to content analysis. Results: 4 males and 2 females participated in the survey, 3 of them are single and 3 of them are married. Of the administrators participating in the research, 3 of them are undergraduate, 2 are graduate and 1 is doctoral student. It has been observed that generation Y executives are expecting colleague approval and motivated in this way and want to have a say in every decision made. Conclusion: The expectation of generation Y hospital managers in general is to have the opportunities which are open to innovation and developing themselves, to be respected, to be asked about their ideas and opinions, to be approved and their managers to be with them and guide them. They stated that they want managers who encourages the employee, provides fairness in the working environment, trusts his/her employee, shares their experience and experience from the previous generations with them.
