This page contains the binding rules for the formal and technical preparation of manuscripts to be submitted to SDÜ İFADE. Manuscripts must be prepared as an editable Microsoft Word (.docx) document using the current Manuscript Template.

Manuscript Length

For Research Articles, Review Articles, and Theoretical Articles, the total text length, including references, must not exceed 8,000 words. For Book Reviews and Translations, the limit is 2,500 words. Where exceeding this limit is unavoidable, the relevant Editor must be contacted before submission.

The Öz and Abstract must each be no more than 200 words. The Öz must be followed by 3–5 Anahtar Kelimeler, and the Abstract by 3–5 Keywords.

Page Layout

The A4 page size, 2.5 cm margins, Times New Roman 11-point font, single line spacing, and 1.27 cm first-line paragraph indentation defined in the Manuscript Template must be preserved unaltered.

Quotation Usage

Direct quotations shorter than forty words must be given in double quotation marks. Direct quotations of forty words or more must be given as a block quotation without quotation marks, starting on a new line, indented 1.27 cm from the left, in the same font and size as the body text, and with the line spacing defined in the Manuscript Template.

This rule also applies to direct quotations from participants. Participants are identified not by their real names but by a pseudonym or code (e.g., Participant 4, P7). Age, occupation, gender, or similar participant characteristics should be reported only when necessary for the research and ethically appropriate. Omitted portions within a quotation are indicated with an ellipsis, while explanatory additions made by the researcher are indicated with square brackets.

Citations and References

In-text citations and the reference list must be prepared in accordance with the 7th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA 7).

Use of Tables

Each table is numbered in the order it first appears in the text (Table 1, Table 2, ...). The table number is bold and the table title is italicized on the line below it. Abbreviations used in the table or source information are given in an italicized line beginning with "Note." below the table. Vertical lines are not used in tables; horizontal lines are used only where they improve readability. Every table must be referred to at least once in the text, and the data should not be repeated in the text.

Use of Figures

Charts, drawings, photographs and screenshots are all classified as "Figures" under APA 7 and numbered in a single sequence (Figure 1, Figure 2, ...). The figure number is bold and the title is italicized above the figure; any necessary explanation or source information is given in an italicized "Note." line below the figure. Every figure must be referred to at least once in the text.

Use of Charts and Graphs

Charts and graphs are not numbered separately; they are numbered according to the rules for figures. Axis labels, legends and units of measurement must be legible, and the data source must be stated in the "Note." line below the figure.

Photographs and Other Visual Material

Permission from the copyright holder is required to use photographs, illustrations or other visual material not belonging to the author, and the source must be stated in the "Note." line below the figure. Authors are responsible for the copyright of visual material used.

Screenshots and Social Media Images

Screenshots and images of social media posts are also numbered as figures. The "Note." line states the relevant account name and platform name; the date accessed is added when relevant to the nature of the content. Information that could reveal identity should be anonymized when necessary, taking into account the purpose of the research, the public nature of the content, personal data, and research ethics. The public availability of content does not remove ethical or legal responsibility.

Reporting Statistical Results

Statistical symbols (M, SD, t, F, p, r, R², β, etc.) are italicized. Values that cannot exceed 1 (such as p and r) are reported without a leading zero (e.g., p = .04, not 0.04). Exact p-values are reported except when p < .001. Effect sizes must be reported alongside significance tests. Example: t(48) = 2.13, p = .038, d = 0.61.

Footnotes and Appendices

Footnotes are numbered sequentially with superscript numbers in the text and are used only for explanatory content, not for citations. Appendices are placed after the reference list and titled "Appendix A", "Appendix B", and so on; each appendix must be referred to at least once in the text.
