İran Takviminin Şekillenmesinde Mitolojinin Rolü

Abstract

İran’da takvim kullanımı, M.Ö. II. binyıldan M.Ö. VI. yüzyıla kadar süregelen bir geçmişe sahiptir. Bu kadim uygarlıkta takvime dair ilk izler, Zerdüşt’ten önceki dönemlerden kalan tabletlerde görülmüştür. Akadca, Elâmca ve Eski Farsça yazılmış bu tabletlerden edinilen bilgilerle birtakım eksikliklere rağmen İranlıların kullandığı ilk takvimler oluşturulmuştur. Takvim, yazılı kaynakların artması ve ortaya çıkarılmasıyla sonraki dönemlerde değişikliklere uğrayarak günümüzdeki şeklini almıştır. Uygarlığa ait ilk yazılı dini kaynaklardan olan Avesta, geçmişte ve günümüzde İran takviminin oluşmasına katkı sağlayan temel unsurlar arasındadır. Takvim, dini, idari ve tarımsal faaliyetlerden doğan ihtiyaçlar neticesinde şekillenerek zamanı programlama aracı haline gelmiştir. Bu açıdan İran takviminde yer alan ay isimleri ya mevsimsel hareketliliğin değişimlerinden türetilmiş ya da doğa olaylarının inanca yansımalarından etkilenmiştir. Bu etki sadece ay isimlerinde kalmayıp ayların her gününün de isimleştirilmesine aracı olmuştur. Tanrı ve melek isimlerinin ay ve gün isimlerine verilmesi İran uygarlığının dini ve mitolojik inançlarına süre gelen bağlılıklarının kanıtıdır. Bu çalışmada, ilk kullanımından günümüze kadar uzanan İran takviminin evrim ve değişim sürecinden ve kendisinde yer alan ay isimlerinin mitolojik anlamlarından ana hatlarıyla bahsedilecektir.

The Role of Mythology in Forming the Iranian Calendar

Abstract

The use of calendars in Iran has a long history extending from the 2nd millennium BCE to the 6th century BCE. The earliest traces of calendrical practice in this ancient civilization have been identified in tablets from the pre-Zoroastrian period. Based on information obtained from these tablets—written in Akkadian, Elamite, and Old Persian—the earliest Iranian calendars have been reconstructed, despite some deficiencies. With the increase and discovery of written sources over time, the calendar underwent various modifications and ultimately evolved into its contemporary form. Avesta, one of the earliest written religious sources of the civilization, is among the fundamental elements that contributed to the formation of the Iranian calendar both in antiquity and in the present day. Shaped by needs arising from religious, administrative, and agricultural activities, the calendar became a means for organizing time. In this respect, the month names in the Iranian calendar were either derived from seasonal changes or influenced by the reflection of natural phenomena in religious belief. This influence extended beyond the names of the months and led to the naming of each day within the months as well. The attribution of the names of deities and angels to months and days stands as evidence of the enduring devotion of Iranian civilization to its religious and mythological beliefs. This study outlines the process of evolution and transformation of the Iranian calendar from its earliest use to the present, with particular emphasis on the mythological meanings of the month names it contains.
