BORDER FROM SOCİOLOGİCAL ASPECT: CASE OF DERECİK

Abstract

This study that researches state borders from sociological aspect, has both theoretical and field research. In theoretical chapter, it is disscussed new border concept that comes out with modern state and how it can be understood for nationalism and modern teritorial order. In particular this research focused on Derecik region that settled on Turkey-Iraq border. In this chapter, it is tried to be identified how Gerdi tribe that lives in this borderland contact socio-cultural, economic and political relationships with otherside and how those relationships effected on their lifestyles and culture by using in-depth interview method and other technics. In this context, it is determined that border can be accepted a socio-cultural space that includes the relationships from tribe and kinship to marriages, from trade to customs and border perceptions.

Abstract

Devlet sınırlarını sosyolojik bir bakış açısıyla konu edinen bu çalışma bir yönüyle teorik, diğer yönüyle de bir alan araştırmasıdır. Teorik kısımda modern devletle birlikte ortaya çıkan yeni sınır anlayışı üzerinde durularak sınırın ulus-devlet, milliyetçilik ve modern teritoryal düzen için ne anlama geldiği tartışılmaktadır. Çalışmanın alan kısmında ise Türkiye-Irak sınırındaki Derecik bölgesine odaklanılmıştır. Söz konusu sınırda ikamet eden Gerdi aşiretinin sosyo-kültürel, iktisadi ve siyasi yönlerden sınırla ve sınırın karşı tarafıyla nasıl ilişki kurduğu ve bunun yaşam tarzını ve kültürünü nasıl etkilediği yapılan derinlemesine mülakat ve gözlem gibi teknik araçlarla tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu çerçevede sınırın, aşiret ve akrabalık ilişkilerinden evliliklere, ticaretten, adetler ve sınır algısına kadar birçok yönden kendine has bir sosyo-kültürel uzama sahne olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
