Significance of the Journal Name, Abbreviation, and Logo

The name of our journal consists of two elements:

“Stratium”: The prefix “Strat-” is derived from the English concept of strategy. Strategy refers not only to military planning but also to the decision-making processes of states, international organizations, and societies within political, economic, and security contexts, as well as rational planning directed toward long-term objectives. In this respect, it is directly associated with academic analysis, critical thinking, and security perspectives. The suffix “-ium” carries the meanings of “place, field, and environment” in Latin and English; it symbolizes the scientific atmosphere, the ground for academic discussion, and the sphere of intellectual production. When combined, Stratium evokes the meanings of “strategic field” or “academic strategy environment” and represents an original brand value reflecting the academic identity of the journal.

“Journal of International Politics and Security Studies”: This expression in the title of the journal directly defines its fields of publication. International politics examines power relations, diplomacy, alliances, international law, and global governance processes among states and international actors. Security studies, on the other hand, extend beyond traditional military security and encompass multidimensional threats such as migration, terrorism, cybersecurity, energy security, and climate security. Thus, the journal’s name not only introduces an original concept but also directly conveys its scope and vision to the academic community.

Abbreviation of the Journal

The logo of Stratium: Journal of International Politics and Security Studies is a powerful symbol that combines academic seriousness with historical heritage. The soldier and flag figures featured in the logo represent a direct reference to Türkiye’s struggle for independence and the concept of security, while the crescent and star elements symbolize strategic vision, scientific guidance, and universal academic values. The expression “STRATIUM,” emphasized in large typography, highlights the journal’s international recognizability and brand value, while the phrase “Journal of International Politics and Security Studies” beneath it clearly demonstrates the journal’s scientific scope and academic focus. In addition, the year “2026” displayed in the logo represents the journal’s institutional identity and the year in which it will begin publication. The colors have also been selected deliberately: red represents strength and national values; gold represents academic prestige, wisdom, and international recognition; navy blue represents trust and academic stability; and white represents scientific neutrality and transparency. In this respect, the logo visually reflects both the journal’s connection to Türkiye’s historical roots and its goal of achieving a respected position in the international academic community in the fields of security and political studies.
