Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı katılımcı elektronik sözlük kullanıcılarının kütüphane algısını, kütüphaneler hakkındaki düşüncelerini ve değerlendirmelerini tespit etmektir.

Yöntem: Çalışma nitel paradigmaya uygun olarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bulgular doküman incelemesi tekniğiyle elde edilmiş ve içerik analizi tekniğiyle analiz edilmiştir. Bulgulara ulaşmak için Ekşisözlük sitesinde kütüphane başlığında bulunan gönderiler incelenmiştir. Elde edilen bulgulardan hareketle tema ve kodlara ulaşılmıştır. Gönderi örnekleri sunulurken metinlerin orijinalliği korunmuş, imla ve noktalamalarına müdahale edilmemiştir.

Bulgular: Uygulanan metodoloji sonucunda gönderilerden hareketle kodlara ve kodlardan hareketle işlev, metafor, bilgiler, yüklenen anlam ve eleştiriler temalarına ulaşılmıştır. İşlev temasını huzur verme, kitap bulundurma, ders çalışma imkânı sunma, sosyalleşmeyi sağlama, bilgi kazandırma, motivasyon kazandırma, güzel vakit geçirmeyi sağlama kodları; metafor temasını ibadethane, cennet, yuva, kutsal mekân, toprak, akıl rafı, demokrasi, beyin geliştirme salonu, kitap müzesi, hapishane, sığınak, hastane kodları; bilgiler temasını genel bilgiler, faydalar, etimolojik bilgi, çalışma sistemi, tarihi bilgi ve fiziksel özellikler kodları; yüklenen anlam temasını kamusal alan ve evdeki kitaplık kodları; eleştiriler temasını gürültü, kalabalık, çalışma sistemi, sayı azlığı, içerik, kirlilik kodları oluşturmuştur.

Sonuç: Çalışmada elde edilen bulgulardan hareketle katılımcı elektronik sözlük kullanıcılarının kütüphaneye adeta bir ibadethane kadar saygı duydukları, onu bir motivasyon, bilgi ve çalışma mekânı olarak gördükleri ancak diğer kütüphane kullanıcılarından ve kütüphanelerin çalışma sisteminden şikâyetçi oldukları sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

Özgünlük: Katılımcı elektronik sözlüklerdeki kütüphane algısını bütünsel olarak ele alan bir çalışmanın ilk defa gerçekleştirilmesi ve bulguların tamamen anonim kişilerin gönderilerinden elde edilmesi çalışmanın yeni ve özgün olmasını sağlamaktadır.

Participatory Electronic Dictionary Users’ Library Perception: Ekşisözlük Example

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study is to determine participatory electronic dictionary users’ perception of libraries, as well as their thoughts and evaluations about libraries.

Method: The study was conducted following the qualitative paradigm. Findings were obtained using the document review technique and analyzed through a categorization and interpretation process in content analysis. To gather findings, posts in the “library” heading on the Ekşisözlük website were examined. Based on these findings, themes and codes were identified. In presenting post examples, the originality of the texts was preserved, and no adjustments were made to spelling and punctuation.

Findings: As a result of the applied methodology, codes were derived based on the posts, and the themes of function, metaphor, information, loaded meaning, and criticism were established based on these codes. The function theme includes the codes such as providing peace, study opportunities, socialization, knowledge, and motivation; the metaphor theme includes codes such as place of worship, heaven, home, sacred place, soil, mind shelf, democracy, brain development hall, book museum, prison, shelter, and hospital; the information theme is categorized by general information, benefits, etymological information, working system, historical information, and physical features; the loaded meaning theme includes the codes of public space and home library; and finally, the criticism theme is formed by the codes noise, crowd, working system, lack of resources, content, and pollution.

Implications: Based on the findings, it can be concluded that participatory electronic dictionary users highly esteem libraries, seeing them as a source of motivation, knowledge, and study, akin to a place of worship. However, they express dissatisfaction with other library users and the library system’s functionality.

Originality: This study is unique as it is the first to address library perception in participatory electronic dictionaries. Findings were derived entirely from anonymous posts, lending novelty and originality to the research.
