Gastrosinema bağlamında ‘‘The menu’’ üzerine bir inceleme

Abstract

Göstergebilim, işaretler ve semboller aracılığıyla anlamların nasıl üretildiğini ve iletişimde nasıl kullanıldığını araştıran bir disiplindir. Söz konusu disipline dil, resim ve sinema gibi çeşitli iletişim biçimlerinde kullanılan işaretlerin, işaretlerin yapılarının ve işlevlerinin analizinde sıklıkla başvurulmaktadır. Bu makale, "The Menu" filmini göstergebilimsel çözümlemeyle inceleyerek, yemek ile toplumsal sınıflar arasındaki ilişkileri, tüketim kültürünü ve gastronominin estetik boyutlarını ortaya koymak amacıyla yürütülmüştür. Çözümleme sürecinde, göstergebilimsel göstergeler teorisi temel alınarak çıkarımlarda bulunulmuş; filmin genel teması ile mesajları arasındaki ilişki ortaya koyulmuştur. Analiz sonuçları genel olarak “The Menu” filminin karakterlerin kültürel kodlarına, psikolojik durumlarına nasıl ayna tuttuğuna ve yemeğin fiziksel varlığının etrafında şekillenen sosyal mesajlar barındırdığına atıfta bulunmaktadır.

An examination of ‘‘The menu’’ in the context of gastrocinema

Abstract

Semiotics is a discipline that explores how meanings are produced through signs and symbols and how they are used in communication. . This discipline is frequently used to analyze the signs, their structures and functions in various forms of communication such as language, painting and cinema. This article analyzes the movie “The Menu” through semiotic analysis in order to reveal the relations between food and social classes, the culture of consumption and the aesthetic dimensions of gastronomy. In the analysis process, inferences were made based on the semiotic theory of signs and the relationship between the general theme of the movie and its messages was revealed. The results of the analysis generally refer to how “The Menu” mirrors the cultural codes and psychological states of the characters and contains various social references shaped around the physical presence of food.
