TAVSİYE KARARLARI ÇERÇEVESİNDE AVRUPA KONSEYİ’NİN TARİH ÖĞRETİMİ VİZYONU

Year 2016, Volume: 5 Issue: 2, 600 - 629, 22.10.2016

Abstract

The VISION of COUNCIL of EUROPE in the FRAME of RECOMMENDATIONS on HISTORY TEACHING

Abstract:  One of the areas of the Council of Europe (COE)’s work since its inception has been history and history teaching. COE’s knowledge and competence in these fields set forth that history teaching should be processed necessarily with a new historical perspective. According to COE history has been seen as contributing to the education of the citizens of Europe and history teaching as an effective tool for the development of democracy. Therefore in this study it is aimed at analyzing COE’s history teaching approach. Accordingly COE’s documents like decisions and recommendations related to the subject were analyzed. From these documents it is clearly understood that COE’s history teaching approach transformed from “common history” into “shared histories”. As a consequence COE’s shared histories vision is the new and significant step for the peoples of Europe to live in unity in diversity.
