Metaphors have been used for allusion and similitude. It also enables to
reveal individuals’ mental schemas about a concept. In this direction, the
purpose of this study was to reveal high schoolers’ perceptions regarding
history teachers through metaphors. The participants of this study were
composed of 80 students studying at high schools in Tokat during the 2017-2018
academic year. Data are compiled through students’ answers to the “history
teacher is like…….Because…….”. Data are
analyzed using content analysis method on phenomenology design. Findings show
that high school students produced 45 valid metaphors on the concept of history
teacher. These metaphors were grouped under 7 main categories, namely; “History Teacher Who Knows Everything,
History Teacher Who Connect Past and Future, History Teacher Who Reflect past
by living, History Teacher Who Guide (give direction) Future, History Teacher
Who Brighten The Unknown, History Teacher Who is Strong/Powerful and Confident,
Patriotic History Teacher. This result
was discussed in respect to the aims of history teaching and some
recommendations were provided for the history teacher educators.

maksadıyla kullanıla gelmiştir ayrıca bir kavrama yönelik, bireylerin zihinsel
şemalarının belirlenmesine de olanak sağlar. Bu doğrultuda lise öğrencilerinin
Tarih Öğretmeni’ne ilişkin algılarının metaforlar aracılığı ile belirlenmesi
amaçlanmıştır. Bu araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2017-2018 eğitim öğretim yılı
Tokat ili merkeze bağlı liselerde öğrenim gören 80 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır.
Lise öğrencilerinin tarih öğretmenine ilişkin oluşturdukları metaforlar, “Tarih
öğretmeni………………………gibidir/ benzer. Çünkü………………………” cümlesini tamamlamasıyla
elde edilmiştir. Toplanan veriler nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden içerik
analizine tabii tutularak analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda lise
öğrencileri tarih öğretmeni kavramına yönelik 45 geçerli metafor üretmişlerdir.
Elde edilen bu metaforlar şu 7 kategoride toplanmıştır: “Her şeyi Bilen Tarih Öğretmeni,
Geleceğe Yön Veren Tarih Öğretmeni, Geçmişi Yaşatarak Yansıtan Tarih Öğretmeni,
Bilinmezleri Aydınlatan Tarih Öğretmeni, Geçmişi ve Geleceği Bağlayan Tarih
Öğretmeni, Güçlü ve Güven Veren Tarih Öğretmeni, Vatansever Tarih Öğretmeni”
olarak algıladıkları tespit edilmiştir.
Bu sonuç genel olarak tarih eğitiminin amaçları doğrultusunda değerlendirilmiştir.

According to the TUHED's new publication policy, the articles which have completed the evaluation process will be published online-first. It will no longer be necessary for manuscripts to wait until the “next issue”. Early Release articles will receive an international identification code (DOI), and identified page numbers.
3- Ethics Committee Approval:
In accordance with the ULAKBİM decision of 25 February 2020, Ethics Committee Approval must be obtained for studies on people (without age restrictions), this approval must be specified in the Method section of the article and signed Ethics Committee Approval must be uploaded to the system. Applications that do not meet these requirements will not be considered for publication.
4- New Publication Policy
Beginning from Spring 2021 issue TUHED will require all Turkish manuscripts to contain a full-text English translation. Manuscripts submitted in Turkish will be requested to have full-text English translation if they are accepted for publication after the review process.
