Abstract

The end of the bipolar system of power with relatively clear
structures and few agents within the international system resulted in
wide ranging discussions of the term 'security'. There was an
unspoken agreement of the necessity to broaden the term. New
situations arose, old ones declined in importance.
Religious concepts have always been an essential trigger for
societal development, but were only rarely seen under the 'umbrella
of security'. Religious movements have been used for political
purpose in a manifold sense. They were a means to push the
development of society and they have also been obstacles to
progress. We know that religion is an essential part in societal
development (e.g. in the pre-phase of transformation in Central
Europe or in ali countries with Islamic predominance).
