Being one of the most controversial issues of late years The Hagia Sophia Mosque might be counted among the places of worship about which had been written numerous books and articles. Since there are dozens of books and booklets at various libraries in Turkey called “History of the Hagia Sophia”. The building which had served as a church until the conquest of İstanbul and was converted to a mosque after the conquest is a waqf monument that had been uninterruptedly used as a mosque for 479 years. In this article, we tried to examine the issue of the Hagia Sophia through the waqfiye and the articles of Fardis and Kostantinidi published in a magazine called Mecmua-i Fünun.

The articles sent to the Journal of Waqfs with a request for publication are subject to preliminary examination by the Editorial Board and at least two academicians who are experts in their fields are sent for review. The copyright of the articles accepted to be published in the Journal of Waqfs with the referee reports and the decision of the Editorial Board is deemed to have been transferred to the General Directorate of Foundations, and a royalty fee is paid to the published articles in accordance with the relevant legislation.
