History of the Hagia Sophia

Abstract

Being one of the most controversial issues of late years The Hagia Sophia Mosque might be counted among the places of worship about which had been written numerous books and articles. Since there are dozens of books and booklets at various libraries in Turkey called “History of the Hagia Sophia”. The building which had served as a church until the conquest of İstanbul and was converted to a mosque after the conquest is a waqf monument that had been uninterruptedly used as a mosque for 479 years. In this article, we tried to examine the issue of the Hagia Sophia through the waqfiye and the articles of Fardis and Kostantinidi published in a magazine called Mecmua-i Fünun.

Abstract

Son yıllarda en fazla tartışılan konulardan birisi olan Ayasofya Camisi, belki de hakkında en fazla kitap ve yazı yazılan ibadethanelerdendir. Zira Türkiye’de muhtelif kütüphanelerde onlarca “Tarihçe-i Ayasofya” adıyla kitap ve risale bulunmaktadır. İstanbul’un fethinden önce kilise olarak hizmet vermiş olan yapı, fetihle birlikte camiye tahvil edilerek 479 yıl kesintisiz cami olarak hizmet vermiş bir vakıf eserdir. Bu çalışmada Mecmua-i Fünun’da Fardis ve Kostantinidi’ye ait iki makaleye yer vererek vakfiye üzerinden Ayasofya meselesi ile ilgili bir değerlendirme yapmaya çalıştık.
