THE EFFECT OF FINANCIAL STRESS ON MEAT ATTACHMENT AMONG ADULTS

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of financial stress levels on meat dependence among adults. The Financial Stress Scale and the Meat Attachment Questionnaire were used as data collection tools in the study, which was conducted online. Correlation analyses showed strong positive relationships between the total score of financial stress and the hedonism (r=0.924; p<0.001), authority (r=0.890; p<0.001), and dependency (r=0.903; p<0.001) subdimensions of meat dependence. Hierarchical regression analyses revealed that financial stress was a significant predictor of the subdimensions of meat dependence, the emotional response subdimension was found to be more strongly associated with meat dependence (β=0.343–0.507; p<0.001). This study demonstrates that financial stress is associated with meat consumption behavior and that this relationship is largely shaped by the emotional component of stress. The findings suggest that, in evaluating dietary behaviors, individuals' emotional stress responses should be considered alongside economic conditions.

THE EFFECT OF FINANCIAL STRESS ON MEAT ATTACHMENT AMONG ADULTS

Abstract

Bu çalışma, yetişkinlerde finansal stres düzeylerinin et bağımlılığı üzerindeki etkisini araştırmayı amaçlamıştır. Çalışmada veri toplama araçları olarak Finansal Stres Ölçeği ve Et Bağımlılığı Anketi kullanılmış olup, çalışma çevrimiçi olarak yürütülmüştür. Korelasyon analizleri, finansal stresin toplam puanı ile et bağımlılığının hedonizm (r=0,924; p<0,001), otorite (r=0,890; p<0,001) ve bağımlılık (r=0,903; p<0,001) alt boyutları arasında güçlü pozitif ilişkiler olduğunu göstermiştir. Hiyerarşik regresyon analizleri, finansal stresin et bağımlılığının alt boyutlarının önemli bir öngörücüsü olduğunu, duygusal tepki alt boyutunun ise et bağımlılığı ile daha güçlü bir şekilde ilişkili olduğunu ortaya koymuştur (β=0,343–0,507; p<0,001). Bu çalışma, finansal stresin et tüketim davranışı ile ilişkili olduğunu ve bu ilişkinin büyük ölçüde stresin duygusal bileşeni tarafından şekillendirildiğini göstermektedir. Bulgular, beslenme davranışlarını değerlendirirken, bireylerin duygusal stres tepkilerinin ekonomik koşullarla birlikte dikkate alınması gerektiğini göstermektedir.
