Abstract

In this study, the presence and functions of music within theatre are examined from various perspectives. Music has been one of the organic components of theatre since its inception. However, the use of music and sound in theatre has evolved over time; it has been enriched with various techniques, acquired new meanings through different purposes, and contributed to expression in diverse ways. While music has often been regarded as a complementary element in conventional theatre, it has become one of the essential components of staging, especially with modernist and postmodernist approaches. Since the 20th century, with the emergence of new interpretations concerning the elements of staging, music has been reshaped, questioned, and transformed into a different medium through the thoughts, perspectives, interpretations, and practices of various theatre practitioners. This study outlines a conceptual framework by examining interpretations regarding the role of music in theatre and dramatic design, and briefly traces the journey of music in this field. In addition, examples of the use of music and sound are provided, and functional classifications are discussed. In the final section, the views of different directors on the role of music within theatre and its place in narrative techniques are analyzed.

TİYATRONUN MÜZİKALİTE BOYUTU: DRAMATİK TASARIMDA MÜZİK KULLANIMI VE İŞLEVLERİ

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, müziğin tiyatro içindeki varlığı ve işlevleri çeşitli açılardan ele alınmıştır. Müzik, tiyatronun başlangıcından beri onun organik bileşenlerinden biri olmuştur. Buna karşın, müziğin ve sesin tiyatrodaki kullanımı zaman içinde değişikliğe uğramış; farklı tekniklerle zenginleşmiş, farklı amaçlarla anlam kazanmış, farklı yollarla anlatıma katkıda bulunmuştur.
Konvansiyonel tiyatro anlayışında çoğunlukla tamamlayıcı bir unsur olarak değerlendirilen müzik, sonraki dönemlerde, özellikle modernist ve postmodernist yaklaşımlarla birlikte sahnelemenin asal öğelerinden biri haline gelmiştir. Yirminci yüzyıldan itibaren, sahneleme araçlarına yönelik yeni yaklaşımların oluşmasıyla, çeşitli tiyatro insanlarının düşünce, bakış açısı, yorum ve uygulamalarıyla zaman içinde şekil değiştirmiş, sorgulanmış, farklı bir araca dönüşmüştür. Araştırmada, müziğin tiyatro ve dramatik tasarım içinde nasıl bir yeri olduğuna dair yorumlar incelenip kavramsal bir çerçeve çizilmiş, müziğin bu alandaki yolculuğuna kısaca yer verilmiştir. Söz konusu içeriğe ek olarak, müzik ve ses kullanımı konusunda örnekler verilmiş, işlevsel sınıflandırmalara değinilmiştir. Son bölümde ise, farklı yönetmenlerin müziğin tiyatrodaki rolü ve anlatım teknikleri içindeki yerine dair görüşleri incelenmiştir.
