Abstract

The Case Of Syringomyelia AccomponiedBy Hidden Meningomyelocele In The Newborn Period Objective: Syringomyelia is defined as existance of a fluid-filled cavity or syrinx within the spinal cord. Syringomyelia is frequently related with congenital anomaly of spinal cord or craniocervical junction. Case Report: Datas from studies about symptomatic and asymptomatic syringomyelia in newborn period are not adequate yet for this topic. In our case, newborn with sacral mass was hospitalized in newborn intensive care unit. The smooth tissue ultrasonography of sacral area revealed the neural tissue presence. İn our case, the patient suffered from hypotonicity and feeding difficulty and in the physical examination deep tendon reflexes were absent. Since our clinical findings were not corresponding exactly with the finding of hidden syringomyelia, magnetic resonance of lumbosacral area was performed and syringomyelia was detected. Conclusion: As a result, syringomyelia must be considered when clinical findings are not corresponding with anomalies of spinal cord and congenital craniocervical junction.

Yenidoğan döneminde kapalı meniingomiyelosele eşlik eden siringomiyeli vakası

Year 2010, Volume: 41 Issue: 2, 111 - 113, 01.03.2010
