A New Material in Dentistry: Giomers

Öz

Especially with the developments in the treatment of the vital pulp, studies on restorative materials have focused on biocompatible materials. In recent years, giomers are produced by using the Pre-Reactive Glass PRG technology in which GISs are used as fillers on the basis of biocompatibility property of conventional glass ionomers. PRG particles included in the resin matrix of giomers are responsible for their physical and esthetic properties that are comparable to those of traditional composites while also providing remineralisation of the dental tissue exposed to fluoride. In addition to the restoration of permanent and primary teeth, there are different products for clinical applications such as coating of the cavity floor and covering of the pits and fissures. This review summarizes the physical and clinical properties of giomers which is a newcomer in dentistry

Öz

Vital pulpa tedavisindeki ilerlemelerle birlikte restoratif materyaller üzerindeki çalışmalar biyouyumlu materyaller üzerinde yoğunlaşmıştır. Son yıllarda geleneksel özelliğinden yola çıkılarak önceden reaksiyona girmiş cam doldurucu Pre-Reacted Glass fillerPRG teknolojisi ile üretilen giomerler geliştirilmiştir. Rezin matriks içine eklenen PRG partikülleri giomere geleneksel kompozitlerle kıyaslanabilecek fiziksel ve estetik özellikler kazandırırken, diş dokusunun remineralizasyonunu da sağlamaktadır. Giomerlerin daimi diş ve süt dişi restorasyonlarının yanı sıra kavite tabanının kaplanması, pit ve fissürlerin örtülmesi gibi farklı klinik uygulamalar için piyasaya sürülen preparatları da bulunmaktadır. Bu derleme diş hekimliği materyalleri arasına yeni katılan giomerlerin klinik ve fiziksel özelliklerini özetlemektedir
