Evaluation of the Utility of Turkish YouTube™ Videos on Trigeminal Neuralgia

Öz

Aim
This study aims to assess the quality of the information found on Youtube™ by evaluating the Turkish content about “trigeminal neuralgia”.
Material and Method
To assess the level of usefulness of the videos 10 predetermined parameters were evaluate and scored. Data about the duration,of the videos, the number views and likes, the source of the videos were recorded. Kruskal Wallis-H test and Spearman Correlation analysis was used for statistics.
Results
88 of 110 videos were assessed. Mean video duration was 455.34±800.685 seconds, mean number of views was 8296,20±15828.179 and mean number of likes were 55.32±106.483. The levels of usefulness were found to be %27.2 low, % 54.5 medium and %18.1 high. The was a significant correlation between the total usefulnes score, duration of video and number of likes (r=0.732, p<0.001; r=0.271, p=0.011 respectively). There was no statistically significant correlation between the total usefulness score and the number of views (r=0.148, p=0.167).
Conclusion
Generally, Youtube™ is a relatively weak source of information about trigeminal neuralgia. Youtube™ videos can be an effective source of information for trigeminal neuralgia patients. Although, patients will reach more accurate and reliable information if the contents are prepared profesionally by health professions and institutions in Youtube™ platform.

Trigeminal Nevralji ile İlgili Türkçe YouTube™ Videolarının Yararlılık Düzeyinin Değerlendirilmesi

Öz

Amaç
Bu çalışmada, YouTube™’da “trigeminal nevralji” ile ilgili Türkçe videoların içerikleri ve yararlılık düzeyleri değerlendirilmiştir.
Gereç ve Yöntem
Videoların yararlılık düzeyini saptamak için önceden belirlenmiş 10 parametre değerlendirilmiş ve skorlanmıştır. Videoların izlenme süresi, izlenme, beğenme sayıları ve yüklenme kaynağı ile ilgili veriler kaydedilmiştir. Videolar arasındaki ortalama farkların analizi için Kruskal Wallis-H testi; video süresi, görüntülenme ve beğenme sayıları ile toplam skor arasındaki korelasyonun belirlenmesinde Spearman Korelasyon Analizi kullanılmıştır.
Bulgular
İzlenen 110 videonun değerlendirme kriterlerine uyan 88’i çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Ortalama video süresi (±standart sapma) 455.34±800.685 saniye, video görüntülenme sayısı 8296.20±15828.179, beğenme sayısı 55.32±106.483 olarak tespit edilmiştir. Videoların %27.2’sinin az, %54.5’inin orta ve %18.1 yüksek yararlılıkta olduğu görülmüştür. Toplam video skoru ile video süresi ve beğenme sayısı arasında anlamlı bir ilişki olduğu (sırasıyla r=0.732, p<0.001; r=0.271, p=0.011); toplam video skoru ile görüntülenme sayısı arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir ilişki olmadığı gözlenmiştir (r=0.148, p=0.167).
Sonuç
Genel olarak YouTube™, trigeminal nevralji hakkında nispeten zayıf bir bilgi kaynağıdır. YouTube™ videoları trigeminal nevralji hastalarının tanı ve tedavi süreçlerinde etkili bir bilgilendirme aracı olabilir. Ancak hekimlerin ve sağlık kurumlarına ait web sitelerinin YouTube™ platformunda trigeminal nevraljiye yönelik bilgilendirici içeriklerin profesyonelce yapılması hastaların daha doğru ve güvenilir bilgiye ulaşmasını sağlayacaktır.
