There are studies on the negative effects of conflicts between parents on children. However, it is possible to improve the quality of the relationship between spouses and the negative effects of conflict on children with psychoeducation programs. In this context, the present study aimed to improve the socio-emotional well-being of parents and their children through psychoeducation program. The study sample consisted of 56 children aged 4-5 years, along with their mothers and fathers. Prior to the intervention, baseline assessments were conducted: the frequency of parental conflict was measured using the O’Leary Porter Scale, conflict resolution strategies were assessed via the Conflict Resolution Styles Scale, and parents’ knowledge about marital conflict was evaluated using the Parents’ Marital Conflict Assessment Scale. Children’s problem-solving skills were measured with the Wally Social Problem-Solving Test, and their emotion regulation skills were assessed using the Emotion Regulation Scale. Following the pre-test phase, parents received a six-session psychoeducation program focusing on marital conflict and its effects on children, while children participated in a parallel six-session program targeting emotion regulation and problem-solving skills. Post-intervention, all pre-test measures were re-administered. Analysis of the data revealed a significant reduction in the frequency of marital conflict and the use of negative conflict resolution strategies, as reported by both mothers and fathers. Additionally, parents demonstrated increased knowledge about marital conflict. Children, on the other hand, exhibited significant improvements in social problem-solving and emotion regulation skills following the intervention. These findings underscore the efficacy of psychoeducation programs in fostering family relationships by addressing parental conflict and its repercussions.
