Reflection of being outskirt on cinema

Öz

Although the process of squatting and being part of outskirt date back to 19th century in the West, formation of outskirts in Turkey become prevalent after 1945‟s when urbanization and internal migration concentrated. City dwellers have mostly casted out, pushed aside the poor and countrymen they see a threat for urban life, culture of urbanity and for the legitimization of this exclusion, identified the residents of outskirts with violence actions. Against the urban violence applied to them, residents of outskirt sometimes have established solidarity relationships within the framework of identity elements such as ethnic origin, religious belonging, citizenship, etc., displayed resistance within a political organization, other times, tried to pulling away poverty, getting a foothold in society by applying to the works quantified illegal. Tracing being part of outskirt in cinema, discovering if resistance or adoption is featured for representation and analysing the reflection on cinema of the social events like urbanization, migration have formed the objective of this article. As the paths and details of being part of outskirt may be followed over motion pictures, the scope of the study has become Başka Semtin Çocukları (Aydın Bulut, 2008) and Kara Köpekler Havlarken (Mehmet Bahadır Er and Maryna Gorbach, 2010) produced in Turkey and La Haine (Mathieu Kassovitz, 1995) produced in France and 7 Virgines (Alberto Rodriguez, 2005) produced in Spain due to their emphasis towards culture of outskirt. As method, qualitative description is preferred.
