It is an architectural element used to determine qibla, that is, the direction of Mecca, during prayers in different religious places such as mihrap, mosque and tomb. In the beginning, it was a simple, unpretentious riche without any ornamentation element, but it was developed and enriched by different cultures in various geographies, not only form and facade arrangement, but also decoration elements, and it was reflected to art work with great skill. Each artist has created a style suitable for her own culture, and this style has been carried to the places they go by the masters who go to different regions. It is possible to see these traces and reflections all over Anatolia. Amasya, one of the oldest settlements of the Middle Black Sea and one of the important princesof the Ottomans, has many works belonging to different periods. Mosques come first among these. The architectural structures, which are determined to have spread over a wide period of time from the 13th century to the 20th century, show themselves in the district, village and town, including the center of Amasya. In these works, the craftsmen have left many legacies in accordance with the taste and aesthetic values of the period. One of these legacies is the Aşağı Baraklı Mosque, located in Özbaraklı village in Amasya’s Taşova district. In this article, the mihrapof Taşova Aşağı Baraklı (Özbaraklı) Mosque, which is distinguished from others with its rich motifs made hand-drawntechnique, will be introduced and evaluated. The mihraps, which stand out different form and decorations since the beginning, have become indispensable elements of mosques and masjids over time. It is important in terms of art history to reveal and evaluate the mihrap of Aşağı Baraklı Mosque, which reflects the art of the period in the best way with its technical and aesthetic features.
