What Kind of Measurement and Evaluation is Required in Foreign Language Teaching

Abstract

In the process of teaching, the basic objective is to achieve the desired goals. Therefore, measurement and evaluation process at regular intervals is performed during instruction. As in all academic programs, in foreign language teaching, measurement and evaluation process is based on a detailed study. But the most important point to consider is to define how measurement and evaluation process should be. In this study, the importance of measurement and evaluation in foreign language teaching is emphasized. And the question “Do the evaluation and measurement instruments in foreign language teaching have required features?” is answered. In this context, a scale related with testing was developed and it has been given to the the teaching staff

Yabancı Dil Öğretiminde Nasıl Bir Ölçme Değerlendirmeye Gerek Vardır

Öz

Öğretim sürecinde temel amaç, öğrencilerin istenilen hedeflere ulaşmalarının sağlanmasıdır. Bu nedenle öğretim aşamasında, belirli aralıklarla ölçme ve değerlendirme işlemleri gerçekleştirilir. Tüm öğretim programlarında olduğu gibi yabancı dil öğretiminde de ölçme-değerlendirme işleminin gerçekleşmesi ayrıntılı bir çalışmaya dayanır. Ancak dikkat edilmesi gereken en önemli nokta ölçme-değerlendirmenin nasıl olması gerektiğinin tam olarak saptanmasıdır. Bu araştırmada yabancı dil öğretiminde ölçme-değerlendirmenin önemi üzerinde durularak, “yabancı dil öğretiminde kullanılan ölçme-değerlendirme araçları hedeflere ulaşmada istenen nitelikleri içermekte midir? sorusuna yanıt aranmıştır. Bu kapsamda testin incelenmesine yönelik bir ölçek geliştirilerek öğretim elemanlarının fikirlerine başvurulmuştur.
