In this study, it is assumed that in the horror genre of popular cinema, the image of women is presented in a way that supports the status quo and reproduces the dominant ideology and gender discrimination; and this situation has not changed since the 70s. The 2005 production “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” is chosen as the sample film and the film was analyzed qualitatively within the framework of Feminist Film Criticism. The aim of the study is not only to reveal the patterns of representation of women in horror films, but also to discuss within the framework of feminist film criticism that women are similarly positioned in the home, education and business life, despite the two films being made in different periods and different dynamics of social change. As a result of the analysis, it was seen that the movie " The Exorcism of Emily Rose" was also capable of reproducing stereotypes to ensure the continuity of the patriarchal system. It is seen that the anti-feminist mindset, which is the basis of The Exorcist film made in the 70s, remained valid in the 2000s, because the patriarchal capitalist system continues its function that reproduces the secondary position of women through the genre of horror. The woman still mediates the birth of evil and is punished if she escapes the gender roles that society deems appropriate for her. It is possible to see all of this both in what happened to Emily and in the character change of the lawyer woman, Erin, who is the main character of the film. Both films reflect a misogynist patriarchal point of view with the depictions they create; It contributes to the reproduction of conservative and reactionary by aligning being a woman with evil and supernatural beings.
