Moderator Effect of Confluence in the Relationship Between Adverse Childhood Experiences and Tendency to Violence in the Participants with Dissociative Symptoms

Öz

This study aimed to explore the impact of adverse childhood experiences on tendency to violence among individuals with high dissociative symptoms and examine the moderating role of confluence—a contact style described in Gestalt therapy theory where boundaries between self and others blur. It is a cross-sectional and quantitative research. Data were collected from 108 participants scoring above 30 on the Dissociative Experiences Scale. Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, Tendency to Violence Scale and Gestalt Contact Styles Scale were used. Results showed that adverse childhood experiences significantly affect tendency to violence, with confluence moderating this relationship. However, high levels of confluence did not significantly moderate the impact of adverse childhood experiences on tendency to violence. In relation to the findings, the relationships between dissociative symptoms, confluence, and tendency to violence are discussed.

Dissosiyatif Belirtileri Olan Bireylerde Çocukluk Çağı Olumsuz Yaşantılarının Şiddet Eğilimine Etkisinde İç İçe Geçmenin Düzenleyici Rolü

Öz

Çalışmada yüksek düzeyde dissosiyatif belirtileri olan bireylerde olumsuz çocukluk deneyimlerinin şiddet eğilimi üzerindeki etkisini araştırmayı ve Gestalt terapi teorisinde tanımlanan, benlik ile diğerleri arasındaki sınırların bulanıklaştığı bir temas biçimi olan iç içe geçmenin düzenleyici rolünü incelemeyi amaçlanmaktadır. Kesitsel ve niceliksel bir araştırmadır. Veriler, Dissosiyatif Yaşantılar Ölçeğinden 30'un üzerinde puan alan 108 katılımcıdan toplanmıştır. Çocukluk Çağı Travmaları Ölçeği, Şiddet Eğilimi Ölçeği, Gestalt Temas Biçimleri Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Sonuçlar, çocukluk çağı olumsuz yaşantılarının şiddet eğilimini etkilediğini ve bu ilişkide iç içe geçmenin ortalamadan düşük düzeylerinin düzenleyici rolü olduğunu göstermektedir. Ancak, ortalama ve yüksek düzeyde iç içe geçmenin, çocukluk çağı olumsuz yaşantılarının şiddet eğilimi üzerindeki etkisinde düzenleyici bir rolü bulunmamaktadır. Bulgularla bağlantılı olarak, dissosiyatif belirtiler, iç içe geçme, şiddet eğilimi arasındaki ilişkiler tartışılmıştır.
