Öz

The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between adult attachment styles and social media addiction, while investigating the mediating role of emotion regulation difficulties and the subdimensions of basic psychological needs (Autonomy, Competence, Relatedness) in this relationship. The sample of the study consists of 365 participants (mean age = 24.27 years), 251 women and 114 men. The participants were asked to complete the Demographic Information Form, Inventory of Experiences in Close Relationships-II, Difficulties in Emotion Regulation-Short Form, Basic Psychological Needs Scale and Social Media Addiction Scale. Pearson Correlation Analysis and Parallel Multiple Mediating Variable Analysis (PROCESS) were applied to the data. The findings revealed that emotion regulation difficulties, autonomy and relatedness needs mediated the relationship between insecure attachment and social media addiction. However, the need for competence did not play any mediating role in this relationship. The findings were discussed within the scope of the literature and suggestions were made for these findings.

Öz

Bu araştırmanın amacı, yetişkin bağlanma stilleri ile sosyal medya bağımlılığı arasındaki ilişkiyi incelerken, duygu düzenleme güçlüklerinin ve temel psikolojik ihtiyaçlar alt boyutlarının (Özerklik, Yetkinlik, İlişkili Olma) bu ilişkideki aracılık rolünü keşfetmektir. Araştırmanın örneklemini 251 kadın ve 114 erkek olmak üzere 365 kişi (ort. yaş = 24.27) oluşturmaktadır. Katılımcılardan Demografik Bilgi Formu, Yakın İlişkilerde Yaşantılar Envanteri-II, Duygu Düzenleme Güçlükleri-Kısa Formu, Temel Psikolojik İhtiyaçlar Ölçeği ve Sosyal Medya Bağımlılık Ölçeğini doldurmaları istenmiştir. Verilere Pearson Korelasyon Analizi ve Paralel Çoklu Aracı Değişken Analizi (PROCESS) uygulanmıştır. Bulgular incelendiğinde, güvensiz bağlanma ile sosyal medya bağımlılığı arasındaki ilişkide duygu düzenleme güçlüklerinin, özerklik ve ilişkili olma ihtiyaçlarının aracılık rolü üstlendiği görülmüştür. Ancak, yetkinlik ihtiyacının bu ilişkide herhangi bir aracılık rolü oynamadığı tespit edilmiştir. Bulgular literatür kapsamında tartışılmış ve bu bulgulara yönelik önerilerde bulunulmuştur.
