The iron and steel industry, due to its working conditions, poses significant physiological and psychological challenges for personnel at all levels. This study examined how self-leadership traits affect the life satisfaction of managers leading teams operating under challenging conditions, such as those at the Iron and Steel Plant in Kocaeli. Data were collected in 2025 from 107 individuals working in managerial positions at various corporate iron and steel plants operating in Kocaeli. During the data collection process, a three-part survey was administered: a nine-question Self-Leadership Scale (ASLQ) and a five-question Life Satisfaction Scale (SWLS). The research findings support the increased overall quality of life of individuals who exhibit self-leadership behaviors, and a positive and statistically significant correlation was observed between self-leadership and life satisfaction (r=0.433, p<0.001). Self-leadership traits explain approximately 19% of the total variance in life satisfaction. Of the self-leadership sub-dimensions, "goal setting" and "cognitive appraisal" were found to be significantly effective in predicting life satisfaction. The results indicate that the effective use of intrinsic motivation sources by managers in heavy industry is a factor that enhances their overall quality of life.
