Smart Destination Implementations Developed During COVID-19: Malaga Case

Öz

Technology and sustainability, the basis of the smart approach, have a key role for tourism in the post pandemic world. Accordingly, the need for a smart destination approach is increasing. This study aims to assess how smart destination implementations contribute to the rebuilding process of tourism. Therefore, Malaga is determined for the case study. Since the city is selected as one of the two capitals of European Smart Tourism for the competition - European Capital of Smart Tourism 2020, Malaga would be a very good leader for the other destinations, willing to improve smart destination implementations. Within the scope of the research, the developed smart implementations, their underlying reasons and effects are examined. It is concluded that the implemented strategies and solutions are quite beneficial for the improvement of Malaga tourism.

COVID-19 Sürecinde Geliştirilen Akıllı Destinasyon Uygulamaları: Malaga Örneği

Öz

Akıllı anlayışının temelini oluşturan teknoloji ve sürdürülebilirlik kavramları, turizmde pandemi sonrası yeniden yapılanma sürecinde önemli bir hal almıştır. Bu doğrultuda, turizmde akıllı destinasyon yaklaşımına olan ihtiyaç giderek artmaktadır. Bu çalışma ile, akıllı destinasyon uygulamalarının turizmin yeniden yapılanma sürecine nasıl bir katkı sunabileceği incelenmektedir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda, Malaga destinasyonu örnek olay incelemesine tabi tutulmuştur. 2020 yılında gerçekleşen European Capital of Smart Tourism yarışması kapsamında, Avrupa Akıllı Turizm Başkenti seçilen iki destinasyondan biri olan Malaga’nın akıllı uygulamalar geliştirmek isteyen diğer destinasyonlar için başarılı bir örnek teşkil edeceği düşünülmüştür. Araştırma kapsamında, Malaga’nın bu süreçte geliştirdiği akıllı destinasyon uygulamaları, bu uygulamaların altında yatan nedenler ve etki düzeyleri incelenmiştir. Uygulanan stratejilerin ve çözümlerin Malaga turizminin iyileşmesine önemli ölçüde katkı sağladığı sonucuna varılmıştır.
