يعدّ كتاب "شاهد على القرن" لمالك بن نبي من أهمّ المؤلّفات التي تجلّى فيها خطاب الذّات وموقفها التّاريخي من الوجود الكولونيالي، حيث سعى الكاتب إلى فهم طبيعة الاستعمار وأساليبه في الهيمنة على مستعمراته، من ثمّ تفكيك خطابه وتقويض مركزيته، وفي سياق ذلك كشف لنا ابن نبي عن جوانب مهمّة من شخصيته و ثقافته ومعاناته أثناء الاحتلال، والمتمعّن في هذه السيرة يلفيها تنهض على محورين أساسيين: الأوّل ؛إدانته للاستعمار الغربي، والثّاني؛ تمسّك مالك بن نبي بالدّين الإسلامي، فإذا كان الاستعمار هو السّبب المباشر لعثرتنا التّاريخية ومأساتنا الحضارية، فإنّ الإسلام هو خلاصنا، لذلك ركّز مالك في رؤيته الحضارية على البعد العملي للدّين، وقد تجلى ذلك من خلال ذكره لكلّ تفاصيل حياته وتعليمه وثقافته وبيئته التي كان يعيش فيها، وذكر أهمّ الأحداث التي كان يموج بها عصره، ناقش ابن نبي قضايا عدّة من منظوره كمسألة الهوّية، والصّراع الفكري، والهيمنة التّاريخية، والخطاب الكولونيالي واستعلاء الآخر الغازي على الذّات، والذّات في سعيها للحفاظ على ثوابتها ومقدّساتها.

The Other and the Stakes of the Self in Testimony of the Century by Malek Bennabi

Öz

Malek Bennabi’s Testimony of the Century is regarded as one of the most important works in which the author manifests the discourse of the self and its historical stance toward the colonial other. Throughout the book, Bennabi strives to understand the nature of colonial presence, examining its objectives and mechanisms of domination over the colonized self, before deconstructing its discourse and negotiating its influence. Within this narrative context, he reveals aspects of his personality, culture, and experiences under colonialism, all of which contributed to shaping his awareness and intellectual formation. The memoir is structured around two intertwined dimensions: the first represents the Arab-Islamic civilizational system that grounds Bennabi’s thought and identity; the second is his adherence to Islamic principles, which remained deeply rooted in him and served as a foundation for his civilizational views. For Bennabi, civilization is ultimately embodied in the human being. The autobiographical account offers rich material through which Bennabi recounts details of his life—his education, cultural cultivation, and the stages of intellectual growth he experienced. It also illuminates several issues from an identity-oriented perspective, such as intellectual conflict, colonial hegemony, and the struggle of the self to confront the other and preserve its values.
