Application Issues of the Epic of Banu Hilal in Modern Times

Öz

The main purpose of the article aims to provide an in-depth and systematic analysis of the practical applications of the Banu Hilal epic in contemporary Arab cultural, educational, and artistic contexts. While traditionally viewed as a monumental example of Arabic oral literature that narrates the migration and exploits of the Hilali tribes, the epic today serves as a dynamic and living heritage that continues to shape cultural identity, pedagogy, artistic expression, and heritage preservation strategies. The purpose of the study is to demonstrate that understanding these applications is essential for appreciating the epic’s enduring relevance and for developing effective approaches to safeguard intangible cultural heritage. A descriptive-analytical methodology grounded in the critical review of existing scholarly literature, UNESCO documentation, and case studies from Arab countries. The study integrates comparative analysis by examining different national and regional approaches to the transmission, teaching, and performance of the Banu Hilal epic. Specific methods include: The research employs Literature review of academic sources on Arabic oral traditions and folklore studies. Content analysis of educational curricula incorporating epic excerpts.

Öz

Makalenin temel amacı, Banu Hilal Destanı’nın çağdaş Arap kültürel, eğitsel ve sanatsal bağlamlardaki pratik uygulamalarını derinlemesine ve sistematik biçimde analiz etmektir. Hilali kabilelerinin göçünü ve kahramanlıklarını anlatan Arap sözlü edebiyatının anıtsal bir örneği olarak geleneksel biçimde değerlendirilen destan, günümüzde kültürel kimliği, pedagojiyi, sanatsal ifadeyi ve kültürel mirasın korunmasına yönelik stratejileri şekillendirmeye devam eden dinamik ve yaşayan bir miras işlevi görmektedir. Çalışmanın amacı, bu uygulamaların anlaşılmasının destanın kalıcı önemini kavramak ve somut olmayan kültürel mirasın korunmasına yönelik etkili yaklaşımlar geliştirmek için gerekli olduğunu göstermektir. Açıklayıcı-analitik bir metodoloji; mevcut bilimsel literatürün, UNESCO belgelerinin ve Arap ülkelerinden vaka çalışmalarının eleştirel incelemesine dayanmaktadır. Çalışma, Banu Hilal Destanı’nın aktarımı, öğretimi ve icrasına ilişkin farklı ulusal ve bölgesel yaklaşımları inceleyerek karşılaştırmalı bir analiz içermektedir. Belirli yöntemler şunlardır: Arap sözlü gelenekleri ve halkbilimi üzerine akademik kaynakların literatür taraması; destandan alıntılar içeren eğitim müfredatlarının içerik analizi.
