This study examines the trends in academic research on cruise tourism conducted between 2004 and 2023. On 25 June 2024, publications covering this period were identified in the Web of Science database by searching the “topic” field with the keywords “cruise tourism.” The retrieved publications were analyzed using VOSviewer through author-citation, document-citation, country-citation, institution-citation, and keyword analyses. The analysis revealed that the most frequently cited author is Kam Hung (494 citations), the most cited article is Hung and Petrick (2011), the most cited country is the United States, and the leading institution is the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The most frequently used keywords are “cruise tourism” (180), “tourism” (31), “cruise” (20), “sustainability” (17), “Caribbean” (10), “climate change” (10), “COVID-19” (10), “cruise ships” (10), “cruise industry” (10), and “sustainable tourism” (9). The findings indicate that the cruise tourism literature over the past two decades has primarily focused on sustainability, climate change, and COVID-19.
