This study examines the milk and milk products sector, at the Western Mediterranean Region, with respect to the strategic competitive position and brings suggestions for the future of the sector and companies in general. The factors affecting the strategic position of the companies in the sector were determined and a questionnaire was used to collect data on the strategic strengths and weaknesses of the companies producing milk and milk products in the Region. The results of the study showed that the majority of the companies were small and medium sized enterprises using traditional production techniques, with considerable problems concerning procurement of quality milk, keeping track of new technologies in the sector, employing qualified personnel and marketing milk products. Forming alliances with bigger companies, getting into joint ventures or marketing through producers cooperatives are some of the means to be suggested as solution to sectoral problems
