There is a general belief that financial crises are rare events. But, banking crises have become common events especially in the developing world. In many regions, almost all countries lived some kind of banking difficulty. There are two major reasons why banking crises and problems deserve special attention in emerging economies. The first reason pertains to the serious consequences of crises for local economies. And the second reason is the spreading of crises to other countries as the international financial markets become increasingly integrated.
