Breast milk is a natural and highly bioavailable food that provides all the nutrients a child needs for growth and development. Breast milk is delivered directly to the baby through breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is one of the most fundamental methods that ensures equal nutrition for all newborns, regardless of social class or economic status. Breastfeeding has numerous benefits for mothers, babies, and society. The World Health Organization recommends initiating breastfeeding within the first hour after birth, exclusively breastfeeding for the first six months, and continuing breastfeeding with complementary foods from the sixth month onward until at least two years of age and beyond. Despite this, in many societies, exclusive breastfeeding rates for the first six months remain below expectations, and various factors influence this situation. One of these factors is the family's social support systems, and father support is important in social support. It is reported in the literature that the active participation of fathers in the breastfeeding process increases the motivation of mothers, helps them cope more easily with the problems encountered during breastfeeding and contributes to the successful continuation of the process. This review was prepared to explain the importance of paternal support during breastfeeding and its impact on breastfeeding outcomes.
