In this study, lignin, carbohydrate content and some fiber properties of pruning of grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.)
cultivars were investigated. Rhamnose (0.40-0.91%), xylose (17.05-20.49%), arabinose (1.15-1.96%), mannose
(1.10-1.98%), glucose (44.29-46.29%) and galactose (1.40-1.98%) were determined as monosaccharide units of
the cultivars. Klason lignin contents were found between 25.15% and 21.74%. Fiber lengths and widths of the
cultivars were measured between 350-3500 μm and 5-40 μm, respectively. Felting powers were calculated
between 46.22 and 74.88 from fiber dimensions. Results showed that properties of pruning of grapevine cultivars
investigated for the study are comparable to hardwood species.
