Investigation Of Food Safety Management System Practıces Of Tea Manufacturers In The Eastern Black Sea Region

Abstract

The primary objective of this study is to analyze the applicability of food safety management system (FSMS) practices in tea production processes and to evaluate their impact on tea producers. For this purpose, the status and effectiveness of FSMS practices among tea producers in the Eastern Black Sea Region were examined. The research was conducted by collecting data through face-to-face surveys with managers of tea factories operating in Artvin, Rize, and Trabzon. Various analyses were carried out based on the obtained findings. According to the results of the analyses, the presence of documented inspection procedures in the supply chain significantly influences the success of food safety practices. However, the impact of factors such as sanitation, cleaning, and quality control points on FSMS has been found to be limited. Additionally, it has been determined that strengthening supplier inspection processes is necessary to improve businesses' compliance with food safety standards. The findings of the study indicate that businesses should use training and inspection mechanisms more effectively to enhance their food safety practices. To ensure sustainable food safety in the tea sector, it is recommended that production processes be aligned with international standards and that management systems be continuously reviewed. This study provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of food safety management in the tea sector and serves as a guide for future improvement efforts.
