Transition Between Overweight to Obese: Representative Turkey Population Based Study

Öz

Obesity is an important public health problem that requires attention in the 21st century. These studies utilize various methods and analytical techniques to detail the causes and consequences of obesity. In this study, using Turkey Health Survey 2022 data, the risks of moving from overweight to obesity were evaluated with socioeconomic indicators and chronic diseases with logistic regression analyses. In the first model was tested with the socioeconomic determinants of obesity, and the answer to what socioeconomic determinants increase the risk in the transition from overweight to obesity was sought. Later, the scope of the research was expanded by adding chronic diseases to the first model. For Turkey, it gave similar results to the literature in terms of age, education, gender and employment status. Being a widow appears as a variable that increases the risk of transition to obesity in Türkiye. In addition, hypertension, diabetes and asthma have emerged as factors that increase the risk of transition to obesity.
