ATTENTION AND CONCENTRATION LEVELS OF SPORTS SCIENCES FACULTY STUDENTS

Öz

This study aimed to examine the attention and concentration levels of students at the Faculty of Sports Sciences, Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University. Our research used the descriptive research model from quantitative research designs. Data were collected using the “Corsi” and “Change Detection” tests from the “Psychology Experiment Building Language (PEBL) and PEBL Test Battery” application developed by Mualler, S., T., & Piper, B., J. (2014). The “Change Detection” test examined total time data, while the ‘Corsi’ test examined “total score” data. The tests were administered to 269 volunteer students actively enrolled at the Faculty of Sports Sciences at Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, selected using a simple random method. The data obtained in the study were analyzed using computer software. The Skewness Kurtosis normality test was first applied to evaluate the data. The t-test was applied to compare binary variables in independent groups, and the ANOVA test was applied to variables with more than two values. The LSD test was applied to reveal significant differences. As a result, those who completed the “change detection” test in the shortest time and those who achieved the highest score in the “corsi” test received full points. A significant difference was found between attention and concentration levels according to the gender variable (p<0.05). Men have higher attention and concentration levels than women. No significant difference was found in attention and concentration levels according to the department and class variables (p>0.05). In conclusion, students continuing their education at the faculty of sports sciences have shorter total scores on the attention test and shorter completion times on the concentration test. It is considered necessary to include attention and concentration-enhancing exercises in the curriculum and training content for female athletes and female students.

SPOR BİLİMLERİ FAKÜLTESİ ÖĞRENCİLERİNİN DİKKAT VE KONSANTRASYON DÜZEYLERİ

Öz

Bu araştırmada Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy Üniversitesi Spor Bilimleri Fakültesi öğrencilerinin dikkat ve konsantrasyon düzeylerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmamız nicel araştırma desenlerinden betimsel araştırma modeli kullanılmıştır. Veriler Mualler, S, T. & Piper, B, J (2014) tarafından geliştirilmiş olan “The Psychology Experiment Building Language (PEBL) And PEBL Test Battery” uygulamasından “Corsi” ve “Change Detection” testeri ile alınmıştır. “Change Detection” testi total süre verisine, “Corsi” testinde ise “total skor” verisine bakılmıştır. Testler Mehmet Akif Ersoy Üniversitesi Spor Bilimleri Fakültesi’nde aktif olarak öğrenim gören basit tesadüfi yöntemle seçilen 269 gönüllü öğrenciye uygulanmıştır. Araştırmada elde edilen veriler bilgisayar ortamında analiz edilmiştir. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde önce Skewness-Kurtosis normallik testi uygulanmıştır. İkili değişkenlerin karşılaştırılmasında bağımsız gruplarda t testi, ikiden fazla olan değişkenlerde ise ANOVA testi uygulanmıştır. Anlamlı farklılığı ortaya koyabilmek için LSD testi uygulanmıştır. Sonuç olarak “change detection” testi en az sürede tamamlayan, “corsi” testinde ise en yüksek skoru yapan tam puan almaktadır. Cinsiyet değişkenine göre dikkat ve konsantrasyon düzeyleri arasında anlamlı bir farklılık tespit edilmiştir (p<0.05). Erkeklerin kadınlara göre dikkat ve konsantrasyon düzeyleri daha yüksektir. Bölüm ve sınıf değişkenine göre dikkat ve konsantrasyon düzeylerinde anlamlı fark tespit edilmemiştir (p>0,05). Sonuç olarak spor bilimleri fakültesinde eğitim görmeye devam eden öğrencilerin dikkat testinde toplam skoru ve konstrasyon testinde tamamlanan süreleri daha kısadır. Kadın sporcular ve kadın öğrenciler için ders müfredatında ve antrenman içeriklerinde dikkat ve konsantrasyon arttırıcı egzersiz uygulamalarına yer verilmesi gerektiği düşünülmektedir.
