A STUDY ON INDIRECT REDUCTIONS IN TERMS OF TWO-VALUED LOGIC –II: THE REDUCTION OF BICONDITIONAL AND NONINCLUSIVE DISJUNCTION PROPOSITIONS WITH FOUR VALUE CASES

Öz

Compound propositions, which contain two different simple propositions, are propositions with four value cases in the context of two-valued logic. These propositions can be called propositions with four value cases. There can be 16 truth functions for propositions with four value cases. Each one eight direct variations of the conjunction, disjunction, conditional, incompatibility, and joint denial takes one of eight truth functions: “true-true-true-false”, “true-true-false-true”, “true-false-true-true”, “false-true-true-true”, “false-false-false-true”. “false-false-true-false”, “false-true-false-false” and “true-false-false-false”. Accordingly, each variation of these propositions can be reduced to four other propositions. Direct variations of biconditional and noninclusive disjunction have the truth functions “true-false-false-true” and “false-true-true-false”. Correspondingly, the different variations of biconditional and noninclusive disjunction are reducible to each other; however, no variation of these propositions can be reduced to the direct variations of the propositions of conjunction, disjunction, conditional, incompatibility, and joint denial. Similarly, neither direct variations nor indirect variations of the propositions of conjunction, disjunction, conditional, incompatibility, and joint denial can be reduced to biconditional and noninclusive disjunction propositions. However, the different variations of biconditional and noninclusive disjunction can be reduced to indirect variations of conjunction, disjunction, conditional, incompatibility, and joint denial. In this study, by making use of both the same and different propositional joints, indirect propositions that are equivalent to direct variations of biconditional and noninclusive disjunction are created, and it is tried to show how biconditional and noninclusive disjunction can be reduced to conjunction, disjunction, conditional, incompatibility, and joint denial.

Öz

İki farklı basit önermeyi içeren bileşik önermeler, iki değerli mantık bağlamında dört değer durumuna sahip olan önermelerdir. Bu önermeler, dört değer durumlu önermeler olarak adlandırılabilir. Dört değer durumlu önermelere yönelik 16 doğruluk fonksiyonu olabilir. Tümel evetleme, tikel evetleme, koşul, bağdaşmazlık ve birlikte değilleme önermelerinin sekiz doğrudan varyasyonundan her biri; “doğru-doğru-doğru-yanlış”, “doğru-doğru-yanlış-doğru”, “doğru-yanlış-doğru-doğru”, “yanlış-doğru-doğru-doğru”, “yanlış-yanlış-yanlış-doğru”, “yanlış-yanlış-doğru-yanlış”, “yanlış-doğru-yanlış-yanlış” ve “doğru-yanlış-yanlış-yanlış” şeklindeki sekiz doğruluk fonksiyonundan birini alır. Buna göre, bu önermelerin her varyasyonu diğer dört önermeye indirgenebilir. Karşılıklı koşul ve tekil evetleme önermelerinin doğrudan varyasyonları ise “doğru-yanlış-yanlış-doğru” ve “yanlış-doğru-doğru-yanlış” doğruluk fonksiyonlarına sahiptir. Buna göre, karşılıklı koşul ve tekil evetleme önermelerinin farklı varyasyonları birbirine indirgenebilir; ancak bu önermelerin hiçbir varyasyonu tümel evetleme, tikel evetleme, koşul, bağdaşmazlık ve birlikte değilleme önermelerinin doğrudan varyasyonlarına indirgenemez. Yine tümel evetleme, tikel evetleme, koşul, bağdaşmazlık ve birlikte değilleme önermelerinin ne doğrudan ne de dolaylı varyasyonları karşılıklı koşul ve tekil evetleme önermelerine indirgenebilir. Bununla birlikte, karşılıklı koşul ve tekil evetleme önermelerinin farklı varyasyonları; tümel evetleme, tikel evetleme, koşul, bağdaşmazlık ve birlikte değilleme önermelerinin dolaylı varyasyonlarına indirgenebilir. Bu çalışmada, hem aynı hem de farklı önerme eklemlerinden yararlanılarak karşılıklı koşul ve tekil evetleme önermelerinin doğrudan varyasyonlarına eşdeğer olan dolaylı önermeler oluşturulup karşılıklı koşul ve tekil evetleme önermelerinin nasıl tümel evetleme, tikel evetleme, koşul, bağdaşmazlık ve birlikte değilleme önermelerine indirgenebildikleri gösterilmeye çalışılmaktadır.
