Amerikan kavramlardır. Amerikan müdahaleciliğinin kökleri 1823 tarihli Monroe doktrinine dayanır. Bu doktrin ABD’nin Amerika kıtasında bulunan devletlerin iç işlerine müdahale etmesine imkan tanımıştır. ABD’nin Soğuk Savaş döneminde gerçekleştirdiği müdahaleler ile Soğuk Savaş sonrası dönemde gerçekleştirdiği müdahaleler arasında temel farklar vardır. Soğuk Savaş döneminde ABD genellikle vatandaşlarını koruma” ya da “meşru müdafaa” gibi gerekçeler gösterirken Soğuk Savaş sonrası dönemde “insani müdahale”, “terörle savaş” gibi uluslar arası hukukun yazılı kaynaklarına henüz girmemiş ve doktrinde çok tartışmalı olan gerekçeler ileri sürmektedir. Bu çalışmada Soğuk Savaş dönemindeki müdahaleler kısaca özetlenecek, Soğuk Savaş sonrası dönemde ve özellikle 11 Eylül sonrası dönemde ABD’nin “terörle savaş”ı üzerinde durulacaktır
