ARCHITECTURAL ANALYSIS OF CONCERT HALLS WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF LUCERNE CONGRESS- CULTURAL CENTER AND TOKYO OPERA CITY BUILDINGS

Öz

The buildings that include the halls where the art of theater is performed appear as important and symbolic values of the city that gather people together within the framework of culture and art. In this context, concert buildings represent an inseparable part of cities in terms of urban identity. Concert halls form the heart of concert buildings as spaces whose forms and dimensions are shaped in line with their capacities and acoustic requirements. Within the scope of this study, two concert buildings designed in the same period in different geographies were analyzed together with their concert halls. The first of these is the Lucerne Congress and Culture Center, located in Switzerland in the European continent where professional theaters have been built. The second one is the Tokyo Opera City, located in Japan in the Asian continent, which has a philosophical and modern-traditional architectural style. Both buildings were analysed in an architectural context, and area and volume analyses were carried out based on the physical characteristics of the spaces and halls, as well as the audience capacities. As a result of the study, it was found that both buildings have a central location and a symbolic value in their surroundings, and the halls within their scope have similar per capita area and volume ratios. In addition, it has been observed that different passive acoustic elements can provide similar acoustic performance with different materials and interior designs, and different geographical and cultural characteristics can be reflected in the designs used in the buildings of the same period.

Öz

Tiyatro sanatının sergilendiği ve mimari bağlamda tarihi süreçteki gelişim ile şekillenen salonları kapsayan yapılar; insanları kültür ve sanat çerçevesinde bir araya toplayan, kentin önemli ve simgesel değerleridir. Bu bağlamda konser yapıları kentsel kimlik açısından kentlerin ayrılmaz bir parçasıdır. Konser salonları ise kapasiteleri ve akustik gereksinimleri doğrultusunda formları şekillenen mekanlar olarak konser yapılarının kalbini oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışma kapsamında, farklı coğrafyalarda aynı dönemde tasarlanmış olan iki konser yapısı, salonları ile analiz edilmektedir. Bunlardan birincisi, antik dönemden itibaren profesyonel tiyatro yapılarının uygulandığı Avrupa kıtasındaki İsviçre’de yer alan Luzern Kongre ve Kültür Merkezi’dir. İkincisi ise, felsefi ve modern-geleneksel bir mimari üsluba sahip Asya kıtasındaki Japonya’da yer alan Tokyo Opera City’dir. Her iki yapı da mimari bağlamda analiz edilmiş, mekanların ve salonların fiziksel özelliklerinin yanı sıra seyirci kapasiteleri esas alınarak alan ve hacim analizleri gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda iki yapının da bulundukları çevrede merkezi bir konuma ve simgesel bir değere sahip olduğu; kapsamlarında bulunan salonların ise, kişi başına düşen alan ve hacim oranlarının benzer olduğu sonucu elde edilmiştir. Bunun yanı sıra farklı pasif akustik elemanların, farklı malzeme ve iç mekân tasarımları ile benzer akustik performansı sağlayabileceği ve farklı coğrafi ve kültürel özelliklerin aynı dönem yapılarında tercih edilen tasarımlara yansıyabileceği görülmüştür.
