Nowadays, many people spend a significant portion of their time in office environments, which necessitates that offices not only serve functional purposes but also meet the physical and psychological needs of users. In office design, the ability to personalize space plays a critical role in enhancing employee well-being, ensuring job satisfaction, and allowing individuals to express their identities. Additionally, personalization is an effective factor in reducing stress caused by the work environment. This article aims to analyze the current situation spatially within the context of the search for personal space in offices where the hot-desking system is implemented. The hot-desk approach is a system designed to reduce costs by using office resources more efficiently. However, one of the major challenges of this method is the suitability of assigned workspaces to users’ needs. The need for employees to define and personalize their space is often overlooked in such systems.
In this study, selected sample offices with hot-desk system were examined using a qualitative content analysis method, focusing on user experiences. User feedback was evaluated alongside spatial data. The findings indicate that the development of a sense of personal spatial belonging is limited. As a result, personalization in office design is shown to be not merely an aesthetic consideration but a functional necessity that supports the social and psychological needs of employees.
