The Reliability of ChatGPT Artificial Intelligence Application Data in Fundamental Topics of the Field of Religious Education

Abstract

This study evaluates the reliability of artificial intelligence (AI) applications in addressing fundamental topics within the science of religious education. It compares the performance of ChatGPT’s free (3.5 version) and paid (4.0 version) versions using Bloom's Revised Taxonomy across six cognitive levels: remember, understand, apply, analyse, evaluate, and create. The findings indicate that while the paid version offers more detailed and comprehensive responses. For example, the paid version demonstrates a deeper understanding, offering nuanced analyses of concepts such as madrasah, while the free version provides more superficial responses. However, both versions contain significant deficiencies such as fabrication of sources and incorrect citations. Likewise, both versions occasionally contain incorrect information and irrelevant explanations. This situation reveals that AI should be carefully evaluated in terms of academic reliability in the context of religious education. The research highlights the potential and limitation of AI in a sensitive field like religious education. In conclusion, while AI tools have the potential to support individual learning in religious education, addressing data accuracy, ethical concerns, and algorithmic biases is crucial. The study suggests the development of robust data sets and ethical frameworks to enhance AI’s applications in this field. It underscores the need for careful oversight and adaptation of AI technologies in sensitive educational contexts.
