The Possibility and Functionality of The Discourse on The Peak / Void Sufistic Experiences
Abstract
In this essay, we tried to deal with on the problem of the possibility and functionality of expressing the peak/unitive-experiences. It is a fact that there are different kinds of mystical experiences that is analized many times by scholars. Especially many things about the zero or peak-mystic experiences has been written over many years. But as well as such nihilistic experinences, some most beautiful, blissful, positive and profound experiences also are quite remarkable. There are also quite important descriptions about the such vision-type experiences in sufi literature. Here the languages of this experiences are theophanical rather than theological. Although, detailed descriptions about such vision-type experiences are available in sufism and in mysticism arised from any other cultures and religions, the unitive experiences are universally acknowledged as ineffable. Most of the mystical literature which was written especially by analysts of mysticism focus on the such unitive experiences. The ways and means for expressing a sufistic experience differs according to the nature and extraordinariness of the experience, the personality and circumstances of the Sufis. The expression forms of the unitive experiences are paradoxical, symbolic and in the form of ecstatic ejaculations (shath) in general. Sufi discourse, with all different forms of its, would actually fail to directly and completely express the experience itself. Although this discourse can not replace the experience directly, while expressing all these spiritual experiences, on the one hand it is created an impression about it in human mind and on the other hand, attention is drawn to that which is bound to remain “inexpressible” for ever.
