Abstract
We have discussed Jonah’s story in Qur’an and Bible. We have mentioned some basic differences between the stories of Qur’an and Bible’s in the contex of Jewish tradition within the exegesis of Qur’an in the Intoduction.. Then we have informed about Jonah’s personality in the first chapter. We have examined Jonah’s story in three basic episodes in the second chapter: i. His being sent as a prophet, ii. The process since his boarding on a ship up to his being swolloved by a big fish and then his landing, iii. The process of starting the prophethood. Jonah’s story in Qur’an has two points that atracts our attentions: Firstly, the differences on this story between two scriptures form an example that the stories of Qur’an are based entirely on “divine revelation” and not be quated from the Bible itself. Secondly, the narratives from israiliyyat, especially Midrashic tradation in our tradation of exeges are more historical data rather than theological meaningful.
