Mersin University Journal of Maritime and Logistics Research aims to contribute to the national and international literature by publishing original and scientific articles in the field of maritime and logistics.

Mersin University Journal of Maritime and Logistics Research is a peer-reviewed journal published twice a year through the dergipark system since 2019. The submitted articles are subjected to a double-blind peer review process, and a decision of acceptance, revision, or rejection is made. The submitted works should not have been published or submitted elsewhere for publication. The content and ethical responsibility of the published articles belong to the authors. The publication rights of the accepted articles and all copyrights of the published articles belong to the journal. By submitting their work, authors are considered to have accepted this condition. Quoting from the published works in the journal without proper referencing is not allowed.

The publication topics of Mersin University Journal of Maritime and Logistics Research include maritime management, maritime transportation and operations engineering, ship machinery operations engineering, logistics and supply chain management, transportation management, international trade practices, transportation management, maritime history, maritime economics and policies, marine ecology and oceanography, navigation and maritime safety, management and organization, and related fields in the maritime industry.

journal is a member of Crossref, and all published articles are assigned DOI numbers.

With the process of globalization, advancements in information, transportation, and communication technologies have led to fundamental changes in many industries, especially the maritime industry. In this new global environment characterized by uncertainty, rapid change, and increased interdependence, the maritime, logistics, and related industries require innovative scientific research with the appropriate technological knowledge, skills, and capabilities to adapt to the conditions of the day. Mersin University Journal of Maritime and Logistics Research aims to contribute to the national and international literature by publishing scientific articles that meet the requirements of this new environment.

Article Submission

Articles submitted to the journal should be works that possess the following characteristics:

Research studies containing original scientific findings.
Studies that present application examples with a scientific approach.
Review studies comprehensively evaluating significant developments on a specific topic.
Articles should be submitted electronically through the Dergipark system.

Font and Page Layout

Works submitted to the Journal of Maritime and Logistics Studies should be written in Microsoft Word using the Times New Roman font. The main text should be written in 11-point font size with single line spacing. Papers that do not comply with these formatting requirements will be returned to the authors without being sent to reviewers.

Works should be written on A4 paper, single-sided, with a margin of 5 cm top, 5 cm left, 5 cm bottom, and 4.5 cm right.

Length and Page Numbers

The length of the submitted papers, including appendices and references, should not exceed 30 pages for publication. However, longer papers may be considered for the review process if deemed appropriate by the Editor and/or Publication Committee. The submitted papers are expected to have a minimum length of 10 pages. Page numbers should not be included in the manuscript.

 Article

The article file that does not include author information consists of the following sections in the specified order: article title, abstract, keywords, introduction, main text, conclusion, references, and appendices. The submitted articles to the journal should follow the following sequence:

Title of the Article

The title should be written in uppercase letters, bold, Times New Roman font, size 12, centered, and should not exceed two lines. For Turkish articles, the English translation of the title should be provided, and for English articles, the Turkish translation of the title should be included.

Underneath the title, the name(s) of the author(s) should be provided. If there are multiple authors, they should be numbered in the header. Example: first author's name (1), second author's name (2), and so on.

Author(s) information, including their affiliated institutions and email addresses, should be provided as footnotes. In case of multiple authors, the author who will be the contact person for communication with the Journal should be specified. If no specific contact author is mentioned, communication will be established with the author who submitted the article to the journal.

Abstract and Keywords

At the beginning of the article, Turkish and English abstracts should be included, consisting of a minimum of 150 and a maximum of 180 words. The abstracts should include the objective, methodology, findings, and conclusion. References and abbreviations should not be included in the abstracts.

Title of the Abstract: The title should be written in uppercase letters, bold, Times New Roman font, size 10, centered, and in italics.

Text of the Abstract: The abstract should be written in Times New Roman font, size 10, and in italics.

Following the abstracts, a blank line should be left, and five (5) keywords that best represent the subject should be provided in both Turkish and English.

Articles can be written in Turkish and English. However, all articles should include the title, abstract, and keywords in both Turkish and English.

Main Text and Section Headings

The main text should be written using Microsoft Times New Roman font, size 11, justified alignment. The paragraph spacing should be set to single (0 pt) before and after the paragraphs. The first line of each paragraph should be indented by 1 cm. The main headings and subheadings of the article should be numbered in a decimal format (e.g., 1., 1.1., 1.1.1.) starting from the Introduction (excluding the References section). Subdivisions up to the third level (e.g., 1.2.4.) can be used, and if needed, lower-level headings should be written in italics and bold without numbering.

The entire sentence forming the main heading should be written in "UPPERCASE and BOLD." The second-level subheadings should be written in "Title Case and Bold." The main and subheadings should be written in Times New Roman font, size 12.

Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should be numbered sequentially (Table 1, Table 2, Figure 1, etc.) and placed in the text where they are referred to. The title of a table should be placed above the table, and the title of a figure should be placed below the figure. The initial letters of table or figure titles should be capitalized. The references for tables or figures should be provided below the table or figure. Tables and figures, along with their titles, should be centered within the text. A blank line should be left between tables, figures, and the text. The text within a table or figure should be in the range of 9-

References

Citations should be made within the text using the author's last name, year of publication, and page numbers, rather than using footnotes.
Example: ... was obtained as a result (Saçaklıoğlu, 2008: 18-22).

When citing works with two authors, both authors' last names should be included. When citing works with three or more authors, only the last name of the first author should be followed by "et al." In cases where multiple works by the same author(s) were published in the same year, symbols (a, b, c, etc.) should be added after the publication year to differentiate the sources. If multiple works are cited at the end of a sentence, they should be listed in parentheses in chronological order, separated by semicolons (;).

For citing books, articles, conference papers, book chapters in edited books:

For a single author:
(Stopford, 1997: 67)

For two authors:
(Bryman and Teevan, 2005: 13)

For more than two authors:
(Rodrigue et al., 2006: 54) - For English works
(Rodrigue vd., 2006: 54) - For Turkish works

Endnotes

Endnotes, which provide additional explanations within the text, should be placed at the end of the article, before the bibliography, and numbered consecutively (1, 2, 3, etc.) according to their occurrence in the text.

Bibliography

The bibliography should start on a new page after the end of the article, and the works should be listed alphabetically by the authors' last names. All sources cited in the text should be included in the bibliography, while sources not cited should be excluded. If the same author(s) has multiple works cited, they should be arranged starting from the oldest publication year. If the same author(s) has multiple works published in the same year, the sources should be listed in the bibliography using letters (a, b, c, etc.) after the publication year. When citing both single-author and multiple-author works by the same author, single-author works should come before multiple-author works. Page numbers should be included for journal articles and chapters in edited books.

Abbreviations used in the bibliography should be in accordance with the language of the article. For example, if the article is in Turkish and the referenced source is in English, "and" should be replaced with "ve."

Mersin University Journal of Maritime and Logistics Research is committed to applying necessary standards and adhering to specific principles in terms of publication ethics. These principles have been prepared based on the recommendations and guidelines developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), Council of Science Editors (CSE), World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), and International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) for journal editors.

EDITOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Publication Decisions

The editor of Mersin University Journal of Maritime and Logistics Research is responsible for deciding which submitted works should be published in the journal. The editor is also responsible for making decisions regarding which works will be published in the journal, taking into account legal requirements related to copyright infringement and plagiarism. The editor has the right to negotiate with the reviewers during the pre-publication evaluation process to make a decision about publication. The editor is responsible for the content and overall quality of the publication. The editor also commits to providing a fair and appropriate peer review process.

Conflict of Interest

Unpublished material, content, or data from the works submitted to Mersin University Journal of Maritime and Logistics Research cannot be used in anyone else's work without the explicit written permission of the author.

Impartiality

The works submitted to Mersin University Journal of Maritime and Logistics Research are always evaluated without any bias. The works are evaluated solely based on their intellectual value, regardless of the authors' personal preferences and opinions.

Confidentiality

The editor of Mersin University Journal of Maritime and Logistics Research, along with the assistant editors and the publication committee, is obligated to not disclose the data related to the submitted works to anyone other than the authors, reviewers, other editor consultants, and the publisher.

REVIEWER RESPONSIBILITIES

Timeliness

A reviewer who feels inadequate to evaluate the assigned work, lacks full knowledge of the subject matter, or cannot provide an evaluation within the specified time frame should inform the editor and withdraw from the review task.

Confidentiality

The works under evaluation by the journal are considered confidential documents. During the review process, all works should not be shown to unauthorized individuals, and information, materials, or content related to the work should not be shared. Privileged information and ideas obtained during the peer review process should be kept confidential and should not be used for personal gain.

Impartiality

Reviewer evaluations should be conducted without subjectivity, following scientific ethics and rules. No personal criticism should be directed towards the author(s). Reviewers should express their opinions using supporting arguments and scientific language.

Declaration of Sources

Reviewers should identify relevant published works not cited by the authors. If a reviewer detects substantial similarity or overlap between the evaluated work and another work previously published within their knowledge, they should bring this to the editor's attention.

Conflict of Interest

Reviewers should not evaluate works in which there is a conflict of interest due to competition, collaboration, or any other relationship or connection with the author. They should notify the journal editor about such situations.

AUTHORS' RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting Standards

Authors are directly responsible for ensuring that the submission to the Journal of Maritime and Logistics Studies at Mersin University is original and scientific, and it has not been previously published in any other journal. The data used in the study should be presented meticulously. The submitted manuscripts should contain sufficient detail and references to meet scientific standards. Fraudulent and deliberately false statements are unacceptable as they may lead to unethical situations, and authors are directly responsible for any negative consequences arising from such actions.

Data Access and Retention

During the evaluation process, the Journal of Maritime and Logistics Studies at Mersin University may request access to certain data used in the study but not provided in the manuscript. Therefore, the author(s) should be prepared to provide access to the relevant data and retain these data for a reasonable period following the publication of the study.

Originality and Plagiarism

Authors should create original content in their studies. If they use others' works, words, data, etc., appropriate citations should be made. By submitting their work to the Mersin University Journal of Maritime and Logistics Research at Mersin University, authors guarantee that their work is original and compliant with ethical standards, that the citations of the sources used are accurately provided, and that it does not bear similarity to published or forthcoming articles. Authors bear full responsibility for this matter.

Multiple Publication

An author should not publish the same work or a substantial part of it in multiple articles simultaneously. Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals at the same time is unethical and contrary to scientific principles.

Declaration of Sources

The citation of sources taken from others' works should always be appropriately indicated. Authors are obligated to cite previous publications that have influenced the essence of their reported study.

Authorship of the Study

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the concept, design, implementation, or interpretation of the reported study. All significant contributors should be listed following the first author. If individuals have participated in the research project in various aspects, they should be stated or listed as contributors. Authorship should also include an author responsible for correspondence with the journal's editor. The author responsible for correspondence should ensure the inclusion of all co-authors in the article.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

All authors are required to disclose any financial source or conflict of interest that may affect the conclusions or interpretations in their work.

Fundamental Errors in Published Works

If an author discovers a significant error or flaw in their published work, it is their obligation to promptly inform the journal editor and cooperate with the editor to rectify the existing error or flaw.

PUBLICATION PRINCIPLES

1) The language of the articles submitted to the journal should be Turkish or English.

2) The submitted manuscripts should not have been previously published or submitted for publication elsewhere. Articles produced from conference papers and symposium presentations can be published in the Journal with a note indicating this on the first page.

3) Accepted or published articles in the Mersin University Journal of Maritime and Logistics Research at Mersin University cannot be reproduced or published in any way without the written permission of the Journal. However, quotations are allowed with proper citation.

4) There will be no copyright fee for the studies, and by submitting their work to our journal, the authors accept that they have transferred the copyright of their work to the journal.

5) The opinions expressed in the published articles and the responsibility for them belong to the authors of the articles.
6) The submitted manuscripts should comply with the rules of writing and grammar.
