PAUL ROLLAND’S APPROACH IN VIOLIN EDUCATION: APPLICATION TO TURKISH VIOLIN EDUCATION
Abstract
Hungarian-American violinist, violist and string pedagogue Paul ROLLAND (1911-1978) developed a unique pedagogical method for beginning-level violin instruction. This pedagogical approach, which has been widely used by violin teachers particularly in the United States since the 1960s, was founded on a very analytical, systematic and logical basis. In the present study, the emergence, development and principles of the Rolland violin method were investigated. Since Turkish violin educators have little or no knowledge about this approach, the purpose of this study was to raise awareness about Rolland’ pedagogical techniques and to discuss the possibility of its application in Turkey.
