Abstract

The aim of this study is to reveal the relationship between post graduate students'research competence and scientific research anxiety and their attitudes towards statistics and research. The samples of the study are Ege, DEU and A. Menderes universities Health, Social and Science Institution students. % 54.7 of the subjects are females and % 45.3 (n=201) males, % 42.3 (n=188) % 57.2 (n=256) of the subjects are doctorate students. The anxiety scale towards research, developed by Büyüköztürk (1992), the reliability coefficient of which is.87, attitude scale towards research competence (alpha:87), developed by Köklü (1992-1994), and the scale towards research with.94 alpha coefficient, were administered to alI subjects. In the study oneway variance analysis, t-tes, Scheffe and Tukey HSD tesis were used for data collection. The significance level is .05. The post graduates'research anxiety differs according to universities, institutions, education level. (Master & Doctoral degree), the Research Techniques, Measurement and Evaluation courses are taken or not. The attitude towards research varies according to research experience, whether the graduates took the course of Research Techniques Measurement and Evaluation. The attitude scale towards statistics differs according to universities, institutions, research experience, and whether the subjects took the statistics course or not. When the findings are considered, it is noticed that there is a significant relation between research competence, research attitude, research experience, statistics attitude, age, the achievement of Research Techniques, Statistics and Measurement Evaluation courses. Approximately, half of the research competence variation adduced the relation between attitude towards research, statistics, research techniques achievement and research experience. This finding may figure out some other factors which may influence research competence.
