Etik Beyan

Çalışma uygulamalarının yapılabilmesi için Koç Üniversitesi İnsan Araştırmaları Etik Kurulu’ndan 02.11.2023 tarih ve 2023.366.IRB3.159 sayılı karar numarası ile etik kurul onayı alınmıştır.

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the effect on the change on the creative thinking skills of STEM, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences undergraduates after attending a 14-week long undergraduate course targeting to develop these skills with its extensive content, and hands-on-minds-on active learning-based interventions and to reveal cross-field differences. The study employed a one-group pretest-posttest experimental design methodology. The participants of the study consisted of 45 undergraduate students, who enrolled in a course called “Nurturing Creativity” which was offered as a university-wide elective, studying in different departments of an English-medium university in Turkey. The effectiveness of the interventions was analyzed with the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking visual forms as pre and post-tests. The findings revealed that the total scores of all students increased after the interventions, regardless of their fields, however when analyzed on a field-basis, students studying in Social Sciences outperformed the students studying in STEM disciplines in the development of creative thinking skills and its sub-dimensions. By discussing the results of the study with the relevant literature, data-driven results, various teaching strategies and suggestions are presented for decision makers and lecturers on how courses and contents targeting the development of creative thinking skills can be constructed.
