THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GRANDIOSE AND VULNERABLE NARCISSISM AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION STYLES USED IN ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS: THE ROLE OF RELATIONSHIP BELIEFS

Öz

The purpose of this study is to examine the role of relationship beliefs in the relationship between grandiose and vulnerable narcissism and conflict resolution styles in romantic relationships. The sample of the research consists of 414 volunteer participants, 268 (64.7%) women and 146 (35.3%) men, in a romantic relationship, between the ages of 18-35, determined by the convenience sampling method. Within the scope of the research, the Socio-Demographic Data Form, Five Factor Narcissism Scale – Short Form, Conflict Resolution Styles in Romantic Relationships Scale, and Relationship Beliefs Scale were administered to all participants. Statistical analysis of the data obtained was made using IBM SPSS 27 software. The findings indicate a positive correlation between vulnerable narcissism (VN), negative conflict resolution style, and submission. Additionally, there is a positive significant relationship between grandiose narcissism (GN) and negative conflict resolution style. Relational beliefs mediate the relationship between vulnerable narcissism and submission. Relationship beliefs, however, do not act as a mediator between GN and conflict resolution styles. On the other hand, GN predicts dysfunctional relationship beliefs and negative conflict resolution style. Results suggest that dysfunctional relationship beliefs and vulnerable narcissism may be linked to unfavorable attitudes and behaviors that might lead to romantic relationship difficulties.

GENÇ ERİŞKİNLERDE BÜYÜKLENMECİ VE KIRILGAN NARSİSİZM İLE ROMANTİK İLİŞKİLERDE KULLANILAN ÇATIŞMA ÇÖZÜM STİLLERİNİN İLİŞKİSİ: İLİŞKİ İNANÇLARININ ROLÜ

Öz

Bu çalışmada, büyüklenmeci ve kırılgan narsisizm ile romantik ilişkilerde çatışma çözüm stillerinin ilişkisinde ilişki inançlarının rolünün incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Araştırmanın örneklemi kolayda örnekleme yöntemi ile belirlenen 18-35 yaş aralığında, romantik ilişkisi olan, 268’i (%64,7) kadın ve 146’sı (%35,3) erkek olmak üzere 414 gönüllü katılımcıdan oluşmaktadır. Araştırma kapsamında tüm katılımcılara Sosyo-Demografik Veri Formu, Beş Faktör Narsisizm Ölçeği Kısa Form, Romantik İlişkilerde Çatışma Çözüm Stilleri Ölçeği ve İlişki inançları Ölçeği uygulanmıştır. Verilerin istatistiksel analizleri IBM SPSS 27 kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçları, kırılgan narsisizm (KN) ile boyun eğme ve olumsuz çatışma çözme stili arasında; büyüklenmeci narsisizm (BN) ile olumsuz çatışma çözme stili arasında anlamlı ve pozitif bir ilişki olduğunu göstermiştir. İlişki inançları kırılgan narsisizm ile boyun eğme arasındaki ilişkiye aracılık etmektedir. Ancak BN ile çatışma çözme stilleri arasındaki ilişkiye aracılık etmemektedir. Diğer taraftan BN işlevsel olmayan ilişki inançlarını ve olumsuz çatışma çözüm stilini yordamaktadır. Elde edilen bulgular, narsisizm ile işlevsel olmayan ilişki inançları arasındaki ilişkinin romantik ilişkilerdeki çatışmalarda ortaya çıkabilecek olumsuz tutum ve davranışlar için risk faktörü olabileceğini göstermekledir.
